It is rare that sequels out do the fist movie. It is actually quite usual that Marvel keeps pulling that of.

Maybe they can just have her say the name of the animal before she starts using their abilities. It’ll be no different to how most anime characters call their attacks.

These are EXACTLY the same kind of casting decisions affecting Storm in the X-Men movies. First Halle Berry (bi-racial black woman), then Alexandra Shipp (bi-racial black woman) but darker-skinned black actresses never seem to be considered for the role.

Not to mention casting darker-skinned actresses in important roles is ONE of the reasons why the "Black Panther" movie has been such a success so far.

The difference is that Storm has always been distinctly drawn in comics as a darker skinned woman (and I HATED that Berry played her), while Vixen has always been drawn as a lighter-skinned biracial woman.
If it had been up to me, Storm would be played by someone like Danai or Lupita, while yes, Vixen would be played by a caramel-skinned sister like Gugu or Janelle.

Perhaps by casting Berry, their version was more based on the 90s cartoon where Storm visibly looked more pale.

Well Lupita was probably about 12 when they made the first x movie so that would have been tough.

    What the hell

Hell no to some low budget production for Vixen, if there is a film we going all out and giving the audience the visuals that we as readers see. None of this calling out animal **** that is annoying to read and will be annoying to listen to ...and just b/c it's in an anime does not mean it's less annoying.

Also, Storm and Vixen have always been drawn as brown-skinned black female characters, Vixen has never looked biracial. A black woman having long hair, straight hair, light-skinned (at certain points in comics) tones, does not make a monoracial black character look biracial. Monoracial black people come in all shapes, sizes, tones, etc, same with biracial people.

The continent of Africa is not the most genetically diverse in the whole world just b/c white people are living in the southern parts and making mix babies with the locals. There are tribes of people with blonde hair, with blues *cough* Storm *cough*, with a high percentage of albinism ...and all of them are Monoracial black invidiuals.
My priority is black female characters; everything else is secondary.

so we have new issue now, I dont think we should exclude biracial people, yes racist casting directors would pick token black people with lighter skin and Caucasian facial features but that not their fault. It wasnt right but its not their and they should not be excluded now their is sunshine for all of us

The people Harassing Alexandra because they think she is too light to to play storm, Lets not continue the divide racists have put in our minds and turn against each other.

COuld be pretty good. The only thing holding her back is that the writer would have to dig into DC lore to find a villian for her to fight because I don't think she has any villians of her own. Its the problem of putting B-listers in their own films, having to find a villian for them to fight.

They could revamp some lesser known animal themed villains like Orca or Great White Shark. Granted they’re Batman villains but honestly, when’s the last time the Batman franchise has used them? It’s not like it’ll cause great damage if they become Vixen villains.

I would guess at the time (circa 1977-1978) when Gerry Conway and Bob Oksner first created Vixen, they were thinking in part of Iman--who then was the most famous supermodel from Africa. So I imagine someone of similar appearance (perhaps a supermodel turned actress) for Mari McCabe.

The problem for WB/DC is that Disney/Marvel has drafted just about every known black actress for their movies--in particular for BLACK PANTHER. The few actresses left are already in the DC movies or the TV shows. So they might need to cast an unknown for the role.

LEGENDS OF TOMORROW has made Mari's family tree just as intriguing as she herself. Exploring the history of the totems deserves its own movie.

The kind of obvious choise from the comics would be her uncle.

Or they go the route of the CW shorts and invent something completely new. Thats anyway the big difference between Vixen and Black Panther or Wonder Woman, you don't have a long publication history of solo stories were you can cherry pick stuff from, they would have to make it all from scratch.

It's too bad that when it comes to Hollywood they like to recycle their actors of color so much, they are willing to search the street for a new Jennifer Lawrence but they will minorities until their is a definite one you can attach a name to for that community.

    Wha?

There was only one person who started it and their comment was uncalled for and yes there will always be black people who do not consider black biracials as black individuals but Alexandra deserved that twitter ass whooping for the way she responded, Keiynan Lonsdale caped for Alex and someone on twitter set him straight and he deleted his tweets so even he understood in a short amount of time what Alex didn't.

Her ignorance was highlighted when you compare her to actresses like Zendaya and Yara Shahidi who understand that they're in the position they're in so quickly b/c they're not only light-skinned but also biracial and that they need to use their platform to shine a light on their brown and dark brown skinned sistas.

Also we can't ignore that there are black biracials who don't even identify as black but they be going for those black roles, those roles that specifically say black/African American.

But colorism is a thing that effects all minorities, it's really bad in the Asian and Latina communities.

I think it would be better if we hear her thinking the name of the animal though voice overs... or perhaps flash the name of the animal(s) on the screen quickly? If she was to say the animal names out loud, she would give away her advantage when she's dealing with enemies. She would be more intimidating and unpredictable if her enemies didn't know which animals she was currently mimicking. They would know they were getting their butts handed to them, but they wouldn't exactly know which animals were responsible for the butt-kicking.
