Exclamation 'THE SENTRY' From Jeff Lemire & Kim Jacinto

Marvel Announces 'The Sentry' From Jeff Lemire and Kim Jacinto (Exclusive)

Spinning out of the Sentry’s surprising appearance in Doctor Strange, writer Jeff Lemire (Moon Knight) and artist Kim Jacinto (Avengers: No Surrender) will launch a brand new Sentry series starring the powerful Marvel hero.

The Sentry series will pick up some time after Sentry’s appearance in Doctor Strange. “Bob will begin to reconnect with the rest of the Marvel U again,” Lemire says. “In fact, our series will start a few months after the events in Donny Cates' Doctor Strange, and Bob will already be reintegrated into the Marvel Universe a bit more.”

The Sentry #1 goes on sale in June.

Man Marvel just will not let this mess of a character die will they. Do they really have that bad of Superman-envy that they have to keep trying to make there Superman knock off happen? Outside of the first mini series it seems like no one has liked anything about this character. All the forced retcons sliding him into every major heroes life just has not worked.

I guess it's nice to see Marvel attempting something a little out-of-the-box again even if I'm not sure this will be the point where Sentry is finally able to catch on.

It is nice to see Lemire on a Marvel book again (even if he's also still writing for DC).

Not interested and I doubt it will survive too long time. Like, who cares about Sentry? And almost every work of Lemire at Marvel has been extremely mediocre, he is better in DC.

The thing is, he's not really much of a Superman knock off. Yeah, they have a lot of the same powers and similar looks, but really Sentry is a very very different character. In a lot of ways, he's as different a character from Superman as you can get. Sentry is a very very messed up character, and that allows for some unique stories under the right writer.

He's a tricky character to use for a variety of reasons, and he might be difficult in an on-going. But his mini's have been pretty good.

What do you mean he’s not a Superman rip-off? He has the same powers and a cape!
    100% unoriginal, 0 differences.

I mildly liked his first stories. Some I never read. I don't know if I could have dealt with him having an affair with Crystal.

I didn't like him much in the New Avengers. He wasn't horrible, but mostly I was still in the "how could Bendix do this to Wanda" mode, so he was the least of my problems. And I admittedly liked Spider Woman becoming more of an Avenger.

But.... I really liked Sentry in the Uncanny Avengers story from several years ago with Kang and the Apocalypse twins. Loved that arc!

True Hyperion is far more a superman knock off. Of course he was created that way.

Sentry like say Shazam is Supermanish but not a copy. But when you come right down to it most characters are either superman, batman, Flash, or Green Lantern like in broad strokes.

I think a lot of marvel characters are Spider-man. Flash has become Spider-man, as well. I also think that Batman gradually became what T'challa was from the start. thing about Superman analogues is that they, generally, have stronger personalities than the real deal. Clark is a one-note square. the appeal is his powerset; his ability to face all-comers. otherwise, Steve Rogers is far better at being the ideal American. Peter Parker's a better everyman. Tony Stark is what Bruce Wayne could have been, if he had ever been able to grow up. and Doctor Doom is Bruce w/o the idealism.

I think that Reed should build a new Universe that some of these characters agree to help repopulate. I'm not necessarily talking about Sentry. but I think someone like Noh-varr or Blue Marvel could make a real difference in another world. there are other characters who could do to being in a less crowded universe, as well (ex. hulk and spider-man variants).

The Sentry is more similar to Miracle Man than anyone. The thing that throws people off that makes him seem like a Superman copy is the "S" and that they both fly and are super strong. Sentry is more in the Miracle Man, Dr Manhattan and Captain Atom category of things. I never will understand outside of looks how people see the Sentry similar to Superman. The origins, powers and character personalities are different. Hyperion and Gladiator are very similar to Superman in those three things. Hyperion especially...

Umm... I liked his other two mini-series... Glad to see he's back
