Default How powerful is Pre-Crisis Superman

PC Superman has always been a rather inconsistent version of Superman, even when compared to his current counterpart. But nevertheless, he is still rather powerful, near Thanos level at that. But based on his most high end feats(consistent, and inconsistent), how powerful would he be(baring any outside power-up, such as the 5D imp dust he snuffed up that allowed him to sneeze away a solar system)?

I'm pretty sure he's considered physically more powerful than Thanos

It depends on plot and who is writing him. He is that random in scale.

But not strong enough to actually beat him. Which is why Thanos is given the win over him on here via TP and superior durability.

His absolute highest showing involves the Sword of Superman, when he wields it, he becomes God. Yes. God. That level of omnipotence. As in another Presence tier being.

He's given the win because he's durable enough to last long enough to bring his esoterics to bear, in a way that would be PC Supes' bane. That doesn't mean Thanos has superior durability, just that he's durable enough to last long enough to bust a move, as it were, and that PC Supes' big tradeoff to his generally vast power was that he was easier to do up non physically.

That doesn't make Thanos more powerful, that makes Thanos capable of surviving long enough to do a particular thing.

Superior durability would imply Thanos is more durable than him which is not the case. It's more like Thanos is tough enough to last long enough to get a thought off.

Semantics but technically speaking (physically) he also packs more offensive power than Thanos who beats him more on a technicality like how J'onn beats Sentry despite being well below "Sentry level"

Anyway on the actual topic, the guy blows out giant stars with his breath, creates new stars by slapping together a couple of moons, tows dozens of planets, tosses neutron stars light years away, that sort of jazz. Also massively crazy FTL, even more insanely durable. Guys as high up the physical totem pole as you can get without being an outright Skyfather

Yeah as for Sups csvThanos. He can withstand a assault just long enough to pull out random crap to win. Despite how damn powerful he was there was a trade off. His weaknesses of magic/transmutation and krypton hit him up HARD.

    Please reread the OP:

Could he even harm a Skyfather though?

Don't think so. He is crazy-strong, but not Galaxy-busting level strong.

He hangs out in that nebulous space between Skyfather and Silver Surfer level, alongside Sentry, Thanos etc

Alright well he had enough super speed to punch a hole in reality, the planet chain feat, and super started stars with heat vision.

The only real limit on Pre-Crisis Superman is, the only things he can't do are the things he hasn't tried yet. There was one time he just decided to stop being vulnerable to magic. Literally he spent one page thinking about why he had that problem, then decided not to have that problem anymore, and he didn't. And he's not just MFTL, he can break the very concept of finite speed beyond what even Flash could or can do.

After Justice League I've seen people asking "Why does he even need the team?" That's not a new concept.
