They mentioned both "Carter" and "Kartor" so I'm guessing they'll stick with the fusion concept that Johns brought in. Or something similar to it anyway.

Yes. Also, reincarnated Egyptian royalty (among other lives).

And Hawkman Found and Dark Nights: Metal has been featuring the reincarnation, Carter Hall version of the character without so much as a mention of the New 52 Thanagarian. I think it's safe to say Carter's a shoe-in as the headliner of this series.

That said, though, I'm sure Venditti will factor Thanagar into the equation as well. The planet itself has been featured in Metal, and I think, Carter or Katar, the planet has become synonymous with Hawkman. Whether Venditti carries over the pre-New 52 compromise Johns, et al. devised or comes up with a new twist on the origin is anyone's guess.

Personally, I wouldn't be opposed to just tying the reincarnation angle in with Thanagar more tightly. In other words, just make Khufu and Chay-Ara's first lives those of Thanagarians stranded on Earth, ala the animated Justice League series. Then you can lose all of the messy Carter/Katar merger plot points once and for all, and tie Carter and Shiera both to Thanagar in a more direct manner.

We'll see, though. As always, I'm open to just about anything as long as the stories are good.

Its a different costume than the one in the first image. I'm guessing it's a flashback to a previous life.

And I too hope they just say that Carter and Shay were Thanagarian, crashed on earth centuries ago, and have been reincarnated on earth ever since. Clean and simple. At least as far as the Hawks go.

I prefer when Hawkman has gloves or his hands wrapped like a boxer. Without gloves he looks a little plain.

I hope that is just a flashback. Hawkman needs an updated look. His silver age look is just not that good and never really has been. From the color scheme to the barechest he just needs an updated look. Give the man a shirt for gods sake.

Considering that this spin out of Metal, I highly doubt that it'll be possible, since now, Carter and Shay are from the dawn of Mankind.
