We've recently got a list of what's going to be in the 30 book extension to the 2000AD title so started picking up some books to fill the holes that these don't cover, Button Man and Zenith so far, looking at complete Skizz (since there's only the Moore written series sharing a book with DR & Quincy in these hardbacks) and the upcoming Starlord collection of early Strontium Dog in the near future. Also while not 2000AD I'm picking up some Treasury of British Comics titles from Rebellion, reprinting other titles from the IPC archive. Reading Charley's War at the moment and have some very fun looking early 70s titles to get around to soon.

    these collections are beautiful!

2000AD has a cool Humble Bundle going on right now, for digital fans. Lots and lots of great books, including oodles of Judge Dredd.

And in general, just a big fan, so cool to see stuff like this going strong. John Wagner for example, still doing terrific stuff on Judge Dredd. There's a new collection called Guatemala that collects some of his recent arcs, and he's doing one in 2000AD right now too. So nice to see.

I have been interested in giving Judge Dredd a go. Is it worth starting from the very first Case Files volume, or should I start with Vol 5 and proceed forwards as some people suggest?

Personally, I'd start from the beginning. It's true that the first volume is a tad different to what Dredd eventually becomes, but the basic elements are there and it's still a good read nonetheless.

Case Files 2 is where it gets really good I'd say. It has the first two mega epics, The Cursed Earth and The Day the Law Died. Really cool longer form ongoing serialized stories. A lot of fun.

Case Files 1 I'd say you could give a try, I think the first strip, Robot Wars, Return of Rico, Academy of Law, The Mega-City 5000, and a few others are key. But they're still finding their voice in that first year. In hindsight, the great and hilarious Walter the Wobot is my fav part more exclusive to that early stuff.

Case Files 2 is must read though, plus it also has this great short story "Punks Rule" with Brian Bolland art that is classic.

Speaking of Bolland, gotta have the first two appearances of Judge Death (in Case Files 3 and 5).

Thanks for the recommendation! I have a feeling that Judge Dredd & his universe are getting more and more relevant regarding issues like social tensions, climate change, civil rights, etc. etc. etc.

    Hi guys
Im wanting to get into the 2000 AD universe side characters like nemesis the warlock, nikolai dante, abc warriors etc. Is there any difference from the paperbacks that can mostly be found in amazon or the 2000 AD ultimate collection hardcovers?

Im in Australia and for a while our news agents started to release these hardbacks and stopped. If i was to get the hardbacks i would have to import them from the UK which is an expense option for me. So therefore with the judge dredd i am happy with the case files that are paperbacks.

I am considering the 2000 AD ultimate collection hardbacks purely because i have some books already collected. For example i have the first 2 nemesis hardbacks and need to get the last 2.

To me it seems like the hardcovers have better paper quality and maybe slight wider pages. While the paperbacks are cheaper. Then there are some cases where the paperbacks are out of print for some characters such as nikolai dante.

I can vouch for the quality of 2000AD's paperbacks at least, those are all good quality. And they're all in the full width UK size, not the slimmer US comic size.

Though they also did some trade paperbacks in the 90s and early 2000s with DC, those are the slimmer US size. But you'll mainly find the higher quality wider Rebellion 2000AD ones.

ABC Warriors: The Black Hole is so cool, I recommend that for sure.
