Most believe that the New 52 world was just the pre Flashpoint world, changed by Manhattan. After the Superman reborn story, it seems that the world is in some type of flux, parts of the old world are coming back but not all of it.

Truth is, we are in the middle of Doomsday Clock and finding out exactly what went down.

You can't really think about it to hard or you will find inconsistencies with the new 52 world being the pre Flashpoint world. Such as Convergence, in that story Braniac bottled all the doomed DC worlds before they were destroyed and that included the pre Flashpoint DC universe. Plus this is where Superdad came from in the first place.

And the whole point of Superman Reborn was revealing that "Superdad" actually came from "this" world. Those cities were cities not plucked from different universes but from different moments in the time stream as they were before a continuity shift. The reason Brainiac plucked them was because the universe they were in (i.e. the main one) was going through a continuity rewrite. In other words, "Superdad" was just the main universe Superman (or at least part of him) who was plucked from the timeline before the continuity-rewriting effects of Flashpoint took hold. Him returning to the timeline from which he was plucked forced said timeline to reintegrate the events of his life that had been wiped away with N52. Its the same thing with Wally, though Superman's life, largely, been reintegrated while Wally's hasn't.

Imagine Marvel's Heroes Reborn and Heroes Return.
Then imagine that ALL of Marvel's characters were sent, not just the FF and Avengers.
And then, without a world untouched to return to, imagine how Marvel would reconcile the changes to reinstate the characters' histories in that new world.

Pre-Flashpoint was destroyed, but no more than Psylocke was destroyed when she was sent through the Siege Perilous and emerged as an Asian assassin.
Did her history with the X-Men prior to her trip, purple cloak and all, still exist? For the X-Men, it did.
But what if the whole world had been changed as well, would it then?

Limiting the Multiverse to 52 worlds was a silly, cute concept that shouldn't have lasted a year.

Imagine an event where a 'select group of heroes' are "reborn" with certain aspects of their earlier stories expanded with an intent of telling their adventures anew for modern generations. And being explained, in-story, as these characters having been transported into a pocket universe, while the rest of the universe goes about unaffected. Then after a year, those characters are returned to their original universe, which had carried on without them.
Then imagine that ALL of the Comic Universe's characters were sent, not just the 'select group of heroes'.
And then, without a world untouched to return to, imagine how the comic company would reconcile the changes to reinstate the characters' histories in that new world.

Pre-Flashpoint was destroyed, but no more than a specific 'composed and reserved' character was destroyed when she was sent through a mystical gem/gateway (which anyone who steps through is judged by the highest of powers of an unknown dimension, and are reborn into a new life without remembering their old one) and emerged as an Asian assassin, with an almost polar-opposite personality.
Did the 'composed and reserved' character prior to her trip, still exist? For her friends and teammates, it did, because that woman was still a part of their history. Although now, they weren't part of hers.
But what if the whole world had been changed as well, would her original character still be considered to have existed if there was no one left to remember it?
