Those 'conditions' aren't non-negotiable. They're just something I prefer, and rarely see done well breaking those preferences. Titanic has tragic ending and technically also cheating. I still love that movie.
You can watch the films first. I watched all the Harry Potter films before reading the books. Except Deathly Hallows. I think that was a better idea. Because books give details. You can get something more when you read it later. But in a film if you know what is going to happen especially if a plot twist or mystery is involved you may not enjoy it as much as when you are fresh. Thus, one can get the best enjoyment. My cousin who happens to be a bigger Harry Potter fan then me suggested the opposite. Can't recall her line of reasoning.

Though that's upto you. Reading a book takes time. But watching a film is relatively easier. So, people may procastinate and in the end do none of them.

About Enchanted's Amy Adams character let us agree to disagree. Cool to know you already think Shaun of The Dead was great. I tried to show 'Shaun of The Dead' to my cousin, the same one i mentioned and she disliked it. I was surprised. Someone not liking Shaun of The Dead. I changed my plans of ever bringing up Hot Fuzz. That's my favorite Edgar Wright film. Baby Driver would be 3rd or 4th to me depending upon the day you ask.

Do check out Before Sunrise someday, if not in the near future. People love Titanic because that's a great movie. Even though with time a good number of people have grown to dislike it. Similarly, Before Trilogy comes up in discussions whenever the 'best trilogies ever' discussion takes place. I have seen only the first and loved it. Its decidedly 'unromantic'. And with that its one of the best romantic films i have seen. The first time i used romance as in romanticized. Second one as in romance genre.

I think you will enjoy Princess Bride and Some Like It Hot. They were just too good. The Big Sick is also very good. I don't remember much about Kate and Leopold, except that i liked it and it involved time travel and fish out of water elements. Brooklyn is a different kind of film. I loved it. I can say that much. The romance aspect of that film fits into those conditions i think. Also, for the rest of them.

I've got to second The Princess Bride. The two leads know they are in love and never sway from this, with circumstances keeping them apart. Never has the journey to twu wuv been funnier. It has? Inconceivable!

MASH is a classic, 11 seasons and ended on its own accord. Though, the first 3 seasons are markedly different from the latter 8. In particular, with the departure of 2 main actors and writers. Though, if anything, the series gets better because of it.

NCIS. 15 seasons. Admittedly, it has lost something in the last couple of seasons since Tony left, but it is still a good series.

Expedition Unknown. The host, Josh Gates, travels the world exploring different cultures, mysteries, and legends. He's a great host, and previously hosted Destination Truth (had infamous luck with transportation).

The Brendan Frasier Mummy Films (not the 3rd one though). Dark humor, action, and goofiness make for easy popcorn movies.

On that note, I'll also recommend Robin Hood Men in Tights, a parody by Mel Brooks, and Space Balls (same director). Both are fun, are romcoms, and great for a laugh. And if you know your 80s and 90s popculture, you'll really enjoy a lot of the references.

How To Train Your Dragon films. The first has a plot that's been done a lot, but the execution of the plot is done extremely well. It even has a few tv series tied directly to them that take place inbetween films that have pretty good quality animation. Period. Just waiting on the 3rd film.
Its so nice that you are posting new stuff. These things are now in other people's radar. Those Mummy films are pure unabashed fun imo. Back in those days there was not this grim and gritty, psychological complexity and stuff like that in such films. They may not be the best films ever, but i have really fond memories of them. The first two. Not the third one.

You think Robin Hood: Men in Tights was good. I may check it out. I must say i am not a big fan of Spaceballs. It was fine. A fun little parody of Star Wars. It was a far better parody then what we get nowadays in the name of parodies. Just for Cary Elwes i might have seen it already, but i was not sure how good was it. I think i will try it soon.

However, like all Troma Productions, it is not safe for work. And very tasteless. Watch at your own discretion.

For a more tasteful recommendation, I will say "Sid and Nancy." Romantic tragedy (loosely) based on Sex Pistols' Sid Vicious.
Thanks for sharing. And thanks for mentioning what these films are. I may check out 'Sid and Nancy' someday. I am a fan of Gary Oldman.

I will recommend 'A Wednesday(2008)'. A thriller set in a Wednesday afternoon. A terrorist has planted bombs across the city and threatens that unless four terrorists are released those bombs will go off. Wonderful acting performances by the leads, a tense thriller and a rare Bollywood film without musical numbers (making it a good one to mention here). I love this film.

TV Shows that not enough nerds are talking about... Everyone knows about The Wire, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, and Stranger Things... but these are some of the best, well written shows ever... and they don't get nearly enough love ...

    ...in no particular order

    1- Black Sails
    2- Mr. Robot
    3- Banshee
    4- Sense 8
5- Man in the High Castle
    6- The Path
    7- the Handmaids tale
    8- Sneaky Pete
    9- Narcos
    10- Spartacus

New shows with a lot of promise... Counterpart, The Alienist, The Terror, The Chi, McMafia

The Robin Men in Tights is also a bit of a musical as well, with a few numbers in it. Along with Carry Elwes, it has Dave Chappelle as a main character.

But yeah, the Mummy Movies are fun. And I have found the Scorpion King (starring Dwayne The Rock Johnson) is also similarly enjoyable.

And I like Achievement Hunter because its not really about playing the games well (most of them kind of suck at most games), its about making enjoyable, and funny content. From minecraft to GTA5, they play a lot of multiplayer games, and often do some pretty crazy stuff. There's even compilations of the various members out there. If you ever just need a laugh, look up "Gavin Free Star Wars". You won't be disappointed.

On Netflix: I'd recommend The Ritual. I'm into scary movies. I get a lot of enjoyment out of them and I thought this was one of the better ones.

Movies on video: Sing Street. I heard about this movie on Screen Junkies and I've watched it like 4 times already. It is about this young kid who starts a band to impress a girl. It is sweet, sad and all the songs are catchy and amazing. It is not a musical, but it is music heavy.

Bad movies that are just a lot of fun: Another scary type movie. I follow this channel "Good Bad Flicks" and there's a video about the making of Event Horizon that really made watching the movie again pretty interesting. Now, the movie isn't necessarily a good movie, but if you watch the YouTube video before you watch the movie, you get a newfound appreciation for Event Horizon.

    Great thread idea, Soubhagya.

The rocks acting in Scorpion king is horrid but his charisma makes the movie completely watchable for me.

Casino is really good. Not too big on Gangster Movies though. I personally feel that it's a genre that peaked at The Godfather and Goodfellas and there really isn't much else after that.

Mobsters movies only or any Gangster film?

    A Bronx tale
    Scarface
    Menace II Society
    Casino
    New Jack City
    The Departed
    American Gangster
    Carlitos way
Training Day(my favorite movie it's borderline a gangsta movie, maybe a dark buddy cop movie. But gangsters play heavily in it)
Off the top of my head. And I enjoy every one of those movies to different degrees. But only half of those are Mobster movies but they are all Gangster films.

Spiderclops have you seen 'Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind(2004)'?

I can't believe i forgot that film when i was recommending romantic films. Its a sci-fi romance. And it has enough wiggling room to be within your conditions of a romance film. I said wiggling room because its ending has enough of room to choose one's interpretation. Needless to say its quite a complicated film.

I couldn't stop myself when i watched it for the first time. I watched it twice within two days. I usually do that with films i really love and are somewhat shorter. I love it. Strange that people don't talk much about this film. It actually won the Oscars for Best Screenplay and got one acting nomination.

"Gangster" as in "Mafia", or "Gangster" as in "Any Organized Crime Film"?

Black Sails takes a whole season to get going, imo. It starts out pretty tacky (someone had obviously seen Game of Thrones and thought "ah ha, sex and violence sells"), but the last episode of s1 kicks it into high gear and it doesn't dip much below that for the remaining seasons. Toby Stephens, an actor who is often a bit hammy imo, really surprised me with his performance as Flint, and Luke Arnold's (Long) John Silver picks up steam as the series progresses, until the clash between the two becomes inevitable. Also the uncomfortable triumvirate of brothel-queen Max, the wimpy-but-cunning pirate Rackham, and the vulnerable-but-lethal Anne Bonny often produces gold. Altogether it's a great series.
