It felt so good to see Nightshade and Witchfire. Hopefully Nightshade joins the team.

I dont mind the witching hour plot , i just don't think it needs to be an actual crossover between WW and JLD.
I guess that she will turn up at least once more in the arc, but the team is pretty much set already, and with John Constantine as the additional bad penny. I first thought Nightshade (and Traci 13) would serve the role of telling them what happened at the Oblivion Bar, but then I realised Constantine was already there and had lived through it all.
But it's pretty clear that Tynion is drawing deep in DC's magical character gallery.
Tell me that Witching Hour takes longer to read than JLD #3.
I'm paused at the $5 price tag.
It does appear to be ten more pages than an average issue of JLD... so that's a good sign.

Just finished reading Witching Hour #1.
Much, much better than JLD #3, and on par with the first two issues.
Maybe even surpassing them a bit with its great use of subtleties throughout the story.

It may also be that as I read my comics digitally, double-page spreads are treated like single 'letterboxed' pages, like a comic printed horizontally instead of vertically.
So, digitally, JLD #1 and 2 both had 20 pages of story each, while #3 had only 18. And with very little narration after the Zatanna/Zatara opening scene, and a couple pages with sparse dialogue, #3 felt a bit more shorter than it actually was.
Also, I think my reading #1 and #2 back-to-back (as essentially one 40-page comic) may have also made the 18 pages of #3 seem even shorter.
Meanwhile, Witching Hour #1 had a whopping 32 pages, which is almost double of #3.

I LOVED Witching Hour #1. I don't remember the last time (or if ever) a comic creeped me out so much. Beautiful art and an absorbing story. Well worth the price, imo.
A discussion in the Zatanna appreciation thread led me to a theory on how they can get out of the pickles they are in as of JLD 4, to wit:
- A mind-controlled Diana
- Diana having super-magic in addition to all her usual superpowers
- Zatanna not having proper access to her magical powers
- Get Diana and Zatanna back to "normal"
spoilers:end of spoilers
Diana's lasso has soul-connecting powers, so Diana catches Zatanna in it; Zatanna then uses their connected souls to break Hecate's control of Diana. In the end they transfer the Hecate super-magic from Diana to Zatanna.
I don’t think that will happen if you read the spoilers for November.
