In the animated series Dick Grayson thought Batman was going overboard because he was going to beat up a man in front of his son. Also since him and Barbara split I guess it wouldn't be fun to have to save her or visa versa.

Ok first of all they aren't making dressings, those are vinaigrettes. Second of all Alfred would school them both. And third, Alfred told each of them that he used their respective "dressing" in the salad but really what he did is throw them both out and used his own far superior one.

So its Alfred's fault really.
