Assuming you're talking canon material, check out Star Wars vol. 1 - Skywalker Strikes for the first material after the Battle of Yavin. You can also check out Marvel's Chewbacca and Princess Leia minis to see those characters shortly after Yavin. After reading Skywalker Strikes you should alternate between that and Gillen's Darth Vader series. Here's a chronological order: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Timeline_of_canon_comics which suggests the Princess Leia mini is the first series after YAvin.

IIRC, the Princess Leia mini's main plot point was the Rebels trying to find a new base, since the Yavin based was compromised during the destruction of the first Death Star.
