Congratulations, Kai the spy
And thanks whiteshark for voting for the Last X-Man cover I picked. Don't worry, Abe. I didn't let the orange "color" my judgement.
Neal Adams did so many great Batman covers so I sometimes forget the others he did. I had never seen that Conan cover before. For some reason, those Marvel magazines didn't hit the racks very often in my area.

Congratulations Kai, that was a truly great Adams Conan cover.
And to those who voted for me, thank you so much.
I truly posted that cover because it is a treasured book to me and I wanted to share it.
That it almost won makes me very happy.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!
Congratulations Kai the Spy! It was a great cover.
Congratulations to Kai "the spy" for a cover which was a part of Marvel's expansion into other formats and one of the early signs they were out to conquer the world. (sorry, I got fixated on spherical objects for some reason).
As to what the captain has learned this week, he's realized that Neil Adams is a talented artist. No, not really. Like with Kirby last week, he kind of always knew that. Neil's an interesting person and folks interested in American comic book history should look more into the non-artistic stuff he's done and the stands he's taken. And yes, some of his ideas now (unrelated to the work I'm talking about) are unusual, but I actually liked Batman Odyssey.
Neil Adams was one of the reasons, I brought comic books into my adult life. Mrs. Cleghorn needs someone to blame.
Congrats Kai the Spy!

One thing I have admired about Neal Adams is that he is an advocate for the rights of the creators in his field. Years ago, he thought that forming a union would help. In 1978 he was one of the leaders of a group called the Comic Book Creators Guild that included Chris Claremont, Frank Miller, Walt Simonson,Jim Shooter and a dozen or two professionals in comics. Ultimately it didn't pan out and was disbanded. He's also helped the push to get Jerry Siegel and Joe Schuster compensation it the Superman case.
Nice cover, Kai! I had no idea Adams had done any Conan covers, it seems so against type for him.
Every day is a gift, not a given right.
Neal has actually done a lot of Conan relatively speaking. he has done interiors on both Savage Sword and the regular Conan title for Marvel and did many covers, pin-ups, and interior front of back covers for Savage Tales and Savage Sword, and a lot of Neal's early portfolios released for sale featured savage barbarian themed art rather than super-heroes, so it was a genre Neal was quite fond of working in (or at least saw as profitable to work in).

On the same theme, Neal did quite a few Tarzan paperback covers in the 70s too...
so he was no stranger to the savage warrior genre even though most comic fans associate him only with super-heroes.
