An author I'm friends with has a short story coming out in one of these books later in the year.

And while it's not a true "mystery", I've started reading:
The Crimson Mask Archives, Volume 1 by Norman A. Daniels and Frank Johnson
    (published by Thrilling Publications)
which reprints some stories from Detective Novels Magazine in 1940.

My local library started up a Mystery Book Club recently and I've joined it. We read The Body In The Casket by Katherine Hall Page this past month. Tonight we picked A Beautiful Mystery by Louise Penny.

    * the Hannah Swensen series by Joanne Fluke:

    Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder

    and

    * Second Chance Cat Mystery series by Sofie Ryan:

    The Whole Cat and Caboodle

I'm also waiting for one library to get back in a book I put on reserve for her:

Something Read Something Dead by Eva Gates
    (A Lighthouse Library Mystery)

I've read the first three in this series and have the fourth in my TBR stack. The first two books I found to be kind of "eh", but loved Book 3.

Today was Independent Bookstore Day. I visited a shop I've never been to before because they were having an author signing to go with the event. The author in question is debut thriller novelist Kris Frieswick. I picked up her book "The Ghost Manuscript" and after her talk was over, I had it signed. I also picked up a couple of "Blind Date With A Book" mystery books. The books are wrapped in brown paper and labeled for what type of book they are. I grabbed a mystery and a thriller and they look pretty interesting judging by the synopsis on the back of each book.

Unfortunately, very few independent book stores anywhere near me, and their selection of books isn't usually to my quirky (older) tastes.

I do go to them sometimes to get greetings cards that are different from a lot of the usual Hallmark crap.

There aren't a whole lot near me either. The one I went to is 30 minutes away and it is the closest. So I go to the Barnes and Noble store that is near me most of the time.

Returned to my neighboring town's library book sale today (half-price day) and also got:

    Three Strikes You're Dead
    by Robert Goldsborough
    <Snap Malek mystery>

    as well a copy of

    The Big Sleep
    by Raymond Chandler
(which I own / have read, but my copy was a British copy and it seemed like there were some changes in terminology, like referring to the "boot" of a car instead of the "trunk")
