I'm confused as to why there needs to be anyone to upstage Iron-Man in being Iron-Man?

No love for my buddy, the Cobalt Man?
[truth in advertising, he and i aren't even facebook friends]
"We live in a world of cowards. We live in a world full of small minds who are afraid. We are ruled by those who refuse to risk anything of their own. Who guard their over bloated paucities of power with money. With false reasoning. With measured hesitance. With prideful, recalcitrant inaction. With hateful invective. With weapons. F@#K these selfish fools and their prevailing world order." Tony Stark
Because a lot of people just don't like him, and have never liked him. You won't see threads saying, "who should be a greater tactician than Captain America?" or "who should be stronger than Hulk?" but Iron Man for some reason inspires people to be downright gleeful about stomping him down.

No one. Armor is Tony's thing. Even Doom relies on armor and mystic arts.
“Now faith, hope, and love remain, and the greatest of these is love.”--1 Corinthians 13:13
“You had a dream; I have a plan”--Cyclops
“There's no point in being grown up if you can't be childish sometimes.”--The Doctor
I don't rhunk asking the question of whether or not anyone can beat Stark at his own game necessarily is an indicator of hate. I think the fact that the question is even raised inherently an acknowledgement that he's perceived as the best. No one bothers asking whether or not anyone can make better armor than Stilt man.

Evelyn Necker eventually built a better armor (Minion) than Stark ever did.
