Collider guy hated the movie. (tears it apart) The girl liked it more.
Grace Randolph says "It's a better movie than Wonder Woman." Extremely high praise from her since she finds opportunities to compare almost EVERY movie she reviews to Wonder Woman.
Though much is taken, much abides; and though
We are not now that strength which in old days
Moved earth and heaven, that which we are, we are,
One equal temper of heroic hearts,
Made weak by time and fate, but strong in will
To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield.
--Lord Alfred Tennyson--
On Rotten Tomatoes, as of this writing, Aquaman holds a 75% Fresh, which for a DCEU movie is really good for that site.
However, what interested me more was the audience reaction. So far, no reviews have been posted yet, but we have "Want to See" scores for Aquaman and the other upcoming movies:
ROTTEN TOMATOES AUDIENCE "WANT TO SEE" SCORES:
Aquaman: 97% (12,044 users responded)
Mary Poppins Returns: 96% (1343 users responded)
Bumblebee: 94% (1252 users responded)
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse: 93% (2199 users responded)
What is so impressive to me is that so many more RT users responded to Aquaman than any of the other movies -- almost 6 times as many as responded to the next highest (Spider-Verse). Given that Aquaman, Spider-Verse, and Bumblebee will all vie for much of the same theater going crowd and are of interest to the same RT user crowd, it does seem true that the interest for Aquaman is higher than any of the other movies coming out this month.
It will be very interesting to see if Aquaman can do better than its predicted $65 million 3-day haul. Yes, it should pass $100 million by end of Christmas day, but I'm hoping it can do better before the extra two days are factored in.
I was hoping for the reviews to be better but even the bad reviews this far says its visually satisfying and fun. So even the bad reviews arent that bad. I like Jason Mamoa been a fan of his casting since day one. So I feel like I'm already in the bag, so pretty sure when I see it saturday ima love it
I get the idea the bad reviews are from reviewers suffering from superhero burnout. The complaints about the CGI for example. Like if this was the first superhero movie they ever saw they would be raving about it.
And if they compare it to a Marvel movie that just confirms it.
Wasn't Grace predicting the PG-13 cut of Deadpool a year before it actually happened?
