There are defiently people who are against DC but you can tell who. But theres also people against MCU. Again they are easy to recognize and people on here usually start ignoring most there posts after awhile because theres nothing to debate when people are just stating crazy things as facts. But DCEU defiently has plenty of MCU fan boys shutting on it unfairly and then the DCEU fan boys use those assholes as justification for there Conspiracy talks and MCU bashing. I got no problem when people dont like the MCU or DCEU but give a reason that grounded in fact. Like say I dont like the MCU cause I feel like they're is no story it's just a CGI fest. That's fine if u feel that way but dont act like that's a fact when a majority of people would strongly disagree. Same thing when people **** on Dark Knight 3. I did not like that movie at all but I recognize that a majority of the fans did. So if I say anything bad about it I make sure to clarify I'm stating how I feel about the movie and not some universal fact.

Anyway got side tracked. I think DCEU has plenty of haters who hate it cause they are MCU die harder but thats small minority. Most the Genral public love Batman and want Batman related stuff to be amazing. Theres no huge intentional bias. Now if u wanna say marvel has gotten so good at Making movies in the CBM space that anything else then what they do rubs people the wrong way. Sure maybe people and critics are unintentionally bias to sole degree but theres no Conspiracy. Marvel just makes movies with heroes peoplle love so consistently. But even marvel trys different things I mean The Winter solider and Ragnarok/Gotg are complete different kinda movies in every way. Dr Strange is the only movie I felt like they tried to hard to make the movie fit the style of other films. Strange making Beyonce Jokes and **** was weird. But overall the movie had a way different tone then most other mcu movies. It just crowbarred some out of character jokes. And then Raganrok and Infinitt way used Strange perfectly. His humor came from him being a dick and doing dickish things, no joke or one liners. Anyway way off topic again. But yes DCEU had plenty haters but so does MCU. You can spot these people pretty esialy cause they usually say off the way type ****.

Actually, a lot of us think the DCEU movies have been good. For me, at least, I loved Man of Steel and Wonder Woman and really liked BvS. Yes, SS & JL were messy due to studio interference.

I do think there is a bias from critics. A lot of them just lazily parrot each other (if I hear "joyless" one more time from some critic-hack regarding DCEU, I'll hurl. You're not being original or profound). Also, a lot them have a set idea of what a CBM should be -- and Marvel was first to market with a shared universe, so everything is going to get compared to that. Just as animated movies often get compared to Pixar by the critics because Pixar has defined the standard for CGI animation.

Critics absolutely do have their favorites and biases and are just as susceptible to defending their favorites/star-f*cking/wanting to feel they are contributing to a successful movement as anyone. It shouldn't be that way, but it is that way.

Critics absolutely hammer and harp on DC and let things slide with Marvel. A group of critics are saying Aquaman is a Ragnarok-wannabe, but I didn't see a ton of critics take Doctor Strange to task for ripping off Inception's key imagery. Even if some mentioned it in a cursory manner, I didn't see anyone really spew venom about it.

If they liked Aquaman, then just say so and leave it at that. Don't bring a comparison to Marvel into it at all. Then, no one will make an accusation of bias.

Marvel has been attacked as well. Look at the backlash to the inhumans imax movie. It was promoted as a mcu film and people walked out in the showings. Gotg 2 and thor 2 got some bad reviews also. It's not just a dc thing.

Me I hated mos (superman is not batman wb), and really hated dvs but liked ww and ss and jl was "ok". With that said I don't care if it's marvel or dc, I just want a good comic book movie. Yes I can be hard on dc films in this forum but that's not due to hating them but that I like dc and want them to make good films. When they do I enjoy the film. I can see people not trusting dc after mos, bvs, and ss but aquaman is getting good buzz, shazam looks good, wonder woman 2 is coming and dc is after generations using more then batman, superman (or their spin-offs) and swamp thing in it's films!

It's a great time for dc films right now! You can like both marvel AND dc films!

Tim Burton's Batmans aren't good. Michael Keaton, Danny DeVito, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken and Jack Nickleson. I will take Tim Burton's Batman over any CBM right now apart from Logan and Deadpool. what makes tim burton's batman good. Tim burton. CBMs are now over commercialised we can't differ the craft behind the cameras. Burton doing burton on Batman was god sent to what the CBM we have now

The thing is that critics judge films in context and Marvel has become the context against which superhero films are judged. They judge MCU movies accordingly and they judge DC and Marvel licensed movies accordingly. There is no agenda.

I'm not a critic and feel like MoS and BvS were joyless it's not just a critic's thing. I liked parts of those movies but it's hard to defend movies u liked parts of when Marvel and Fox have put out movies I've liked the entirety of in the same time span. Like even on this board people think there some MCU Agenda. But I bet most(not all) of us want to like these movies. Were in the bag for them all you gotta do is not f*** it up. Look at Kevin Smith he tries his hardest to say nice things about MoS and BvS and he does say some nice things. But like alot of us it's obvious he wasnt a fan of the direction. But prior to seeing these movies all he does is hype them up and cry to the trailers. I think alot of people on here are in the same boat aS Smith but arent as nice as he is so when they are let down they are way more vicious. Anyway this is about Aquaman which looks like a blast cant wsit to see it tomarrow night

I always find amusing how easily triggered some people are when it comes to critics and movies.

My point was that the overuse of "joyless" by critics and fans describing it showed a lack of original thought, which made me not put too much credence in their reviewing skills.

Anyway, Snyder was not trying to make a "joyful" movie. I think he had a fully realized vision that would have shown a full character arc for Superman over the course of 5 movies, and I don't mind seeing an alternate take on my familiar characters. I prefer it to a Donner-rehash. I think it would have gone down better if the marketing were there to prepare people for a take that was going to go against all their expectations for the character and what a Superman movie "should" be.

I'm glad that people seem to be stoked for Aquaman. However, I'm curious to see how the headlines will play out regarding box office opening weekend.

Will they trumpet Aquaman being number 1 at the box office, or will they dogpile on Aquaman for getting probably the by-far-lowest 3-day opening for a DCEU movie (around $65 million according to estimates)?

This would put it on a par with the first Thor and Andrew Garfield's Amazing Spider-Man and be one of the lowest openings for a CBM in the last 6 years. Or will they not bother to report to heavily on the 3-day and just wait for the 5-day results?

Any of these headlines will be true, but it will interesting to see which outlet uses which headline. Maybe then we'll know if there's really any bias.

Everybody has an "Agenda" and critics of the Critics have their own Agenda, which is to silence people who dislike what they think is fine art. Movies can be a great watch and still be a **** film, without people talking about "AGENDAS".

It seems to come from trying to tie bad reviews to why the movies have not made as much money as they think they should have. And blaming critical bias to somehow making people not like what they think is a good movie. When in reality people just don't agree with them it isn't the critics fault.

Having seen the movie, I can definitely say its one of the best DCEU entries so far. Definitely more in the league (pun intended) of Wonder Woman than Suicide Squad. In fact, I found it more enjoyable than WW, though the latter is probably the better film. But then, when you're having fun, what difference does 'better' really make...?

I certainly get the MCU comparisions here. Aquaman definitely feels a bit like an MCU film, but in a good way, not in the 'let's try to turn this into the Avengers and hope it appeases the critics' way that WB went for with Justice League. The parallels to Thor and Black Panther are there, but it feels like its own animal above all else. Its certainly the most unabashedly 'comic-booky' DCEU film so far - perhaps the most 'comic-booky' DC film ever. Arthur, Orm, Mera, Black Manta, Atlantis...all look like they've popped out of the comic-book pages. There's certainly not a hint of Nolanesque 'realism' here, which is great because this is one character with whom that approach definitely would not have worked.

Aquaman shatters the DCEU mould for sure though, even moreso than Wonder Woman did. If this is the template for the 'soft reboot' of the DCEU moving forward, then count me in!

I saw it last night and completely agree with everything you said. I loved it. There were loads of moments that put a smile on my face. Loved the soundtrack too.

Spider-Verse is doing okay at the BO. Mortal Engines is DOA. Aquaman should clean up since the competition is pretty underwhelming. Is there any buzz at all on Holmes and Watson?
