How many times did badguys come blasting through walls? Seemed like a lot.

But at least this movie has put the final nail in the coffin of the “guy who talks to fish” jokes. I nerded out when Arthur was riding the giant seahorse (sea dragon). A call back to the Super Friends days but just so badass.

If the early cartoons had him commanding megalodons en masse he wouldn't have been taken as a joke. That said I liked the diversity of aquatic mounts the Atlanteans and other races used, some based on real-life extinct species.

In Peter David's Aquaman run they definitely explored the "talk to fish" angle a lot more seriously. And it actually made sense why he could talk to fish, I think he was the ONLY Atlantean who could talk to fish.

I didn't read the review yet because I am definitely looking forward to seeing the movie and don't want to read a buzzkill review. After I see it, I'll judge whether the review has any merit or if the reviewer fell victim to the dreaded "movie snob cred" in some amateurish attempt to "be taken seriously as a reviewer."

At some point I have to think that maybe the people saying Disney pays the critics are correct.

Or maybe that’s just the writers opinion on the film? It’s not like the person who wrote it isn’t saying anything that hasn’t been said in this very thread.

I hope not, because that's unfair to the movie. The story may not be all that spectacular but there is a story nonetheless.

It was okay. I liked it way better than BvS and JL, but less than Wonder Woman.

I certainly would not have expected to get substantially higher ratings for Bumblebee that Mary Poppins or Aquaman. I won't see AM because I've been burned on DCEU too many times (okay, every time) and it's just not worth 12-bucks to me for the risk, but I thought the trailers looked a lot better than Bumblebee's

I really hope most people just go check it out and have fun.

The over analysis of DCEU movies is so tiring.

I don't see most people over-analyzing DCEU. They just look at the superficially obvious.

Just got back from it, thought the movie was a lot of fun. I do think they could've saved Manta for the sequel to actually develop Ocean Master more and Amber Heard could've been replaced with a log given how wooden she was, but still I had a blast. Also, even though I'd already seen the shot in the last few trailers/TV spots, when Arthur steps from the waterfall with the trident and the classic look was still goddamn badass. I'm probably gonna go catch again next week when my brothers are in town for Christmas.

I think there is a clear bias for the MCU with critics.
I don’t think the critics underrate the DCEU, I think they overrate the MCU.
The RT scores for the MCU are ridiculously too high.

My thoughts exactly. I’m sick of people being overly critical about these movies. They’re just so pretentious at this point with their pseudo-intelligent takes on superhero movies. Just zip it and have fun.
Imagine being proud to have negative traits. I can’t relate.
