The studios get less money from the international box office than the domestic one. For example the China box office is only 20-25% for the studios.

James Wan talks about how The Trench spinoff flick will be a pure monster movie. AS opposed to a superhero flick like AQUAMAN.

I hear the Sea Devils will be in THE TRENCH--that's a deep dive into DC waters.

Dane Dorrence and his crew seem like a good fit for the flick.

I just finished wwatching Aquaman last niight. It was a great movie. I enjoyed it. I loved William Dafoe's performance as Vulko.

    I got two questions.

    1. Why are they referring to Arthur's mother's five-pronged spear as trident? Trident is latin for "three teeth". Tri means three. So why not call it "pentadent"? There is also a two-pronged spear called bident.

    2. When Arthur and Orm are about to fight in an arena, there are signs written in English displayed in front of them even though the spectators are all Atltanteans and there is no single surface dweller. Don't the Atlanteans have their own language?

What language were the speaking in the movie?
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

It would be something like 'quintident' I think. ',Penta' is Greek.

Also, just wanted to say I loved Aquaman too. Great action movie. I saw it in the same weekend as Spider-Verse and Bumblebee in the cinema and enjoyed all three equally.

It's just something they probably thought would be easier to recognize and say - trident vs. pentadent (or quintident as Mormel says above). I wouldn't look too much into that.

Yes, Atlanteans have their own language. I forget if there was a clearly established take on that in the movie or not, but I do believe there are some references to their being different languages and learning them, etc. Keep in mind Atlantis is its own civilization.

And glad you liked it. It's a good action flick that harkens back to the 80s action movies per James Wan.

    Mormel, Wandering Wand, I see.

Trident was used by fishermen to hunt fish. They made a fisherman's weapon into a weapon of royalty.

The only sharp parts of the trident is the three tips of the trident. It was good for stabbing, not for slashing like a sword. I never held a trident, so I wonder how they can fight with tridents, swinging and thrusting.
