    Default After Secret Wars

How did the Marvel earth revert back to normal earth from Battleworld after Secret Wars? How did those who died in Secret Wars get back to life after Secret Wars?

Firstly we had a very long discussion here on these borads about Secret Wars and if you are up for reading through it you might find some interesting views. LINK.

But essentially the story shows us (with a few ambiguities). Franklin, Reed and Owen rebuild it. They repopulate it with the people that were there at the end. The population is a little unclear about what exactly happened. They mention the incursions and the world seeming to come to an end, but they are not sure how it was resolved or if that final destruction was real.

Less clear but heavily implied is the fact that they rebuild the new universe out of the parts of the 616 (old MU) and the 1610 (old Ultimate Universe). This means that some characters, for example Miles and some friends and family, are now a part of the new universe. Some writers, most notably Charles Soule in a Word Balloon Podcast interview, have suggested that members of the public will also be from one or other of the universes, and that the two are inexorably mixed. Marvel have so far not had a story that really delves into this.

Just in case you didn't realise, the Owen he mentions there is Molecule Man. Franklin also has reality warping powers.

And Bendis, in Spider-Men II, retconned away the 616/1610 universe merge. The Ultimate Universe was apparently restored, almost as it was except that Ironheart (who hadn't even debuted in 616 let alone 1610 before Secret Wars and therefore didn't already appear in the Ultimate comics) has replaced Iron Man on the Ultimates, Jessica Drew has gone back to her old Spider-Woman identity instead of Black Widow, and that Miles and his supporting cast were gone, with Peter back in action (he was already resurrected in Miles's last pre-Secret Wars series) and on the Ultimates team. It seems Miles and family still got transplanted, but time has subsequently progressed in 1610.

In the last issue of Secret Wars, Mr. Fantastic and Doom are fighting in Molecule Man's lair. Dr. Doom somewhat admits that Reed would have done better than he did with the Beyonder's power, so Molecule Man takes it away from him. It was said that Doom was holding battleworld together with this power so when he lost it, all of reality began falling apart. Right before everything in Battleworld was destroyed, Black Panther got a hold of one of the infinity gems (not sure if it was the time gem or reality gem, even Hickman says that part was up in the air) to restore "616" back to the beginning of New Avengers #1 (with slight changes of course). Mr Fantastic uses the Beyonder power, along with his son Franklin, to create new universes and the Future Foundation then explore those worlds.

I'm sure this will all be recapped in August's F4 #1 too.

No he definitely didn't. The 1610 does not exist regardless of a couple of pages in Spider-Men.

You are entirely wrong about this. Nothing was reset back to any point, let alone New Avengers #1 other than Wakanda was restored. Hickman was unclear at the time because it was up to the next writer of T'Challa exactly what this meant. But this was resolved as soon as Coates started his story. No reset. the incursions are a clear part of canon and have been refereed to several times since. The last battle in New York between the two universes is also established canon.

I am sure you realise that this is not a particularly useful suggestion. All it says is the new universe is both Familiar and Strange.

Was it explained in Black Panther comic what exactly happened there at the end of Secret Wars #9?

Unfortunately Coates didn't even know the ending of Secret Wars when he started writing Black Panther. That said, because marvel decided to essentially ignore Hickmans ending anywas so it really didn't matter.

Breevort comments on what happened with the incursions here. Essentially the last incursion doesn't destroy the earth due to the sacrifice of the FF.

It was explained very clearly on the very first page that certain things had happened to T'Challa, and then in World of Wakanda some of the events of New Avengers and Infinity were shown from other perspectives. Indeed the entire premise of Black Panther under Coates is that these events happened. That his rule is questioned in the light of these events. He was able to bring everyone back except his sister.

So you tell me how the events happened? The only explanation that includes Thanos invading Wakanda is that T'Challa brought everyone back (apart from his sister). The Wakanda story was a major thread in Hickman's New Avengers. In Secret Wars the assembled dead of Wakanda are waiting for him to fix things. That is what he does. It was foretold by Bast that he would follow Reed beyond death and again this is what the story shows us. T'challa travelled to Battleworld and brought back his people. The scene we see at the end of Secret Wars represents a new rebuilt reality that includes Wakanda. But Wakanda has been shown to remember everything and shown to have partaken in those events.

As the new universe is a mixture of realities anyway the slight discontinuity of a single relatively insular nation is not a major problem compared to two whole universes being destroyed.

Coates clearly refers to the story right up front and in the whole of his run.

Brevoort's statement doesn't contradict anything, and it confirms that the incursions all occurred so how is that supposed to prove they didn't?

Question: At the end of Secret Wars, Black Panther used the time gem to go back to the past, where he observed that the first incursion never occurred. That being said, Maria Hill mentioned the "incursion crisis" in Avengers Standoff: Welcome to Pleasant Hill. So in the new marvel universe, did incursions occur or not?

Answer: Yes, they did. But the final Incursion didn’t wipe out the Earth–rather, the world was saved due to the sacrifice of Reed Richards and his family and the Future Foundation.

That would have made a good comic book story.
