I turned 21 in New York, great experience, but it was weird being asked to show my ID sometimes when I ordered a beer in restaurants haha. I knew the age for drinking was 21, but even when I traveled through France, went to Barcelona and spent a week near Brussels at 17, I don't remember experiencing troubles going to pubs, nightclubs or buying alcohol. In Chile, hardly ever I've been asked to show my ID since I turned 17. I assumed that the US is more strict in that matter, but I only have my experience, so I could be wrong. What struck me is that some of the things one can do with 18 are bigger deals that drinking alcohol, so I don't see why the age to drink was changed (or maybe in some states the age has always been 21 and it was changed to be equally in the whole country. I’m not well documented on the matter)

"The Batman is Gotham City. I will watch him. Study him. And when I know him and why he does not kill, I will know this city. And then Gotham will be MINE!"-BANE
"We're monsters, buddy. Plain and simple. I don't dress it up with fancy names like mutant or post-human; men were born crueler than Apes and we were born crueler than men. It's just the natural order of things"-ULTIMATE SABRETOOTH
That's always been my opinion. I also feel that the prohibition has led to more binge drinking.
I was around 20 when this was becoming a national issue, with the federal government pulling highway funding if states didn't change laws (circa 1985). Of course, growing up in New Orleans made this a non-issue. Back in the day, we had bars with off-duty cops as bouncers that allowed pretty much anyone over 16 drink (and 15 for girls, seriously) as long as you behaved. Even now, there are more loopholes than an Olympic flag.
