Default How close are we really to a Cp30 style humanoid Android?

When you see stuff like this

And here about stuff like Google Duplex It makes you think that one of the holy grails of old school sci-fi might be only a few decades (maybe even less) away.

I'm cool with it...as long as they stick with limited ai.

I’d say a decade for the 1st 2 decades for mainstream use.

    20 years?

We might have Replicants before we have Star-Wars-like droids...

If something can be done with long lasting batteries for these machines you could feasibly get Battledroids within a decade or two. Think the B2 given the sort of frame the one running has.

To be completely honest though, the "brains" of these things are totally doable even with a passing knowledge of the program, the issues arise in getting them to not be completely awkward and make sense. This is why Sophia is so important, it's a machine that can respond in a "natural" way, or at least more than most other machines out there could. It'll be awhile before a protocol droid happens though. Mostly because we're more concerned with making them human than we are making an assistant. I would say a protocol droid is more likely given where we are now, but given more emphasis on making them human-like, it's more likely we wont see it for a long time.
