    If your sister is interested not just in character, but in attitudes and depictions, another character that she might look at is The Whip who debuted in Flash Comics #1 in 1939. Its a case where an Anglo, Rod Gaynor, disguised himself as a Latino, sterotypical spanglish included. Later depictions altered his background to give him Spanish heritage, but I'm pretty sure that's not how he was created.
