More control over name changes

I understand there was probably a past issue and that is why we have the current rule of asking for a name change in the thread to a moderator.

However, I was wondering if it would be possible to revisit this topic and allow users ONE name change that could be done in their own settings. It would probably save you from some hassle since you have other site responsibilities. Just thought I would ask.

This is something that is not technically possible.
VBulletin does not allow users to change their own names.

We also don't want users to change their name overly much as it's often used by troublesome account holders to leave their questionable reputation behind and start again.
