Default AMC's The Terror - Finale (SPOILERS)

I've not seen any discussion about this show here so I thought I would kick it off. I really didn't know what to expect with this show. I though it would be a tale about a haunted ship until I read up on the ill-fated mission of The Erebus and The Terror. At times claustrophobic setting since a lot of the early episodes take place aboard the two ships that become surrounded by ice in their search for the Northwest Passage to the Pacific. I'm glad I stuck it out all the way through last night's episode as the crew fought both the natural and the supernatural in their quest. Did anyone else watch this?

Me and my mom watched this series...it was interesting...
They never quite explained what the creature was.
Captain was best character, glad he survived. Someone should have shot Hickey.

    About Hickey spoilers:
did you see how Captain Crozier right off noticed that he was wearing the monogrammed boots of James Fitzjames, the captain of the Erebus? They wrapped him up after he died and tried to find a spot to place him where Crozier said "he wouldn't be picked over" . I guess that didn't work out. His body might have had too much disease for them to use. He had it about the worst I guess of those who were suffering from lead poisoning. I've read some reviews on like and some say that by trying to eat Hickey, the creature became poisoned by Hickey's corrupt soul. Makes sense to me! He wasn't even who he said he was and we never knew his true name.

About the Tunnbaq, here's a snippett about it's origins from the book

    Here's the articlethe-terror-monster-explained

The Tuunbaq itself, a partial creation from the novel’s author Dan Simmons who borrowed heavily from Inuit mythology, is a “killing spirit”, a soul-consuming monster that was given life during a war between Inuit gods before being banished to the frozen wasteland. Particularly fond of humans, the Tuunbaq can only be defeated by “spirit governors”, chosen Inuit shaman gifted with psychic abilities.
The shaman we saw in the early episodes had removed his own tongue. Later on Lady Silence does the same as a sort of tribute they must make. spoilers:
And at the end, when we see it up close, the creature had very human looking face, especially the eyes

For a finale where it absolutely could have face planted hard, it was a pretty brilliant episode.

It was a fascinating bit of speculative fiction about a real event. I was glad that Captain Crozier survived and decided to avoid rescue in this version of events. I am thinking in particular of the early episodes that showed how in flashback how Captain Franklin's family treated him, even the woman he loved, as someone that wasn't good enough to marry into the family. IIRC he has asked to go along to help keep Franklin's quest successful and it was Franklin's decision for the course that got them locked into the ice. Franklin escaped in a way by meeting his death quicker, long before the situation became desperate.

Well, I certainly didn't see this coming. Factoring this in, the show could actually have legs.
