Jim Shooter was EIC in the 80s and that was really the second peak of Marvel after the '60s.

Favorite titles and comics, and storylines:
-- Secret Wars 1984, by Shooter himself.
-- Roger Stern's entire output of that decade whether his run in
--- The Avengers ("Under Siege", "The Faithful Servant" among others)
--- Doctor Strange ("To Have Loved and Lost")
--- Captain America (Cap for President)
--- Amazing Spider-Man ("Nothing can Stop the Juggernaut, The Kid Who Collected Spider-Man, The Daydreamers"
--- Doctor Strange and Doctor Doom -- Triumph and Torment (The best of it all).
-- Walt Simonson's The Mighty Thor.
-- Frank Miller's Daredevil from "The Elektra Saga" to "Roulette", and 'Born Again'.
-- Chris Claremont's run on X-Men -- The Phoenix Saga, the Dark Phoenix Saga, Days of Future Past, Wolverine, God Love, Man Kills.
    -- PAD's Hulk Series.
    -- JMD's Kraven's Last Hunt
-- Michelinie's run on ASM starting from The Wedding to the "Return of Venom".
    -- Michelinie's Emperor Doom.

My two favorite characters in Marvel are Spider-Man and Doctor Doom and the '80s were a good decade for them, so it was a good decade for Marvel. Doom basically became THE villain in that decade (Secret Wars, T&T, Emperor Doom) and Spider-Man experienced his peak in the '80s. Highest sales ever, his 25th Anniversary, his wedding.

As well as Paul Smith's pencilling in comics such as The Uncanny X-Men #173 (September 1983).

I agree that the 1980's was one of Doom's peak periods. But no love here in this thread for Byrne's Fantastic Four? It is one of my favorite runs for the title. And it provides some key Doom stories in Terror in a Tiny Town, and Doom's return to power in 246-247. And we finally see Sue lose the name of Invisible Girl.

This is probably the only decade of the X-Men that I liked too besides that brief revival with Neal Adams on the art.

    Would like to add:

    Marvel Team up
Master of Kung Fu (started in the late 1970s but finished in 1983)

1980’s Marvel holds a special place in my heart. Spidey and the alien costume saga, his simple but memorable storylines. I love that era. The Daredevil was awesome. Captain America, Iron Man, Silver Surfer. It was almost like leaving the cheese (which I love) of the 60’s & 70’s and heading into darker, more serious stuff, but still somewhere in the middle.

Power Pack, and Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man are my faves. Not much else is worth looking back on.
Continuity, even in a "shared" comics universe is often insignificant if not largely detrimental to the quality of a comic.

    Immortal X-Men - Once & Future- X-Cellent - X-Men: Red

1980s was when Marvel was at its best. I wish Jim Shooter was successful at buying Marvel in the late 80s. We would have seen a much better 90s MU.

I really loved The West Coast Avengers and Frank Millers Daredevil. To be honest those are the only 80s comics I have read because I am starting each series from the beginning but I really enjoy them. I am about to start Spiderman 80s comics.
