    Well, yeah...

    spoilers:
They kill off the definitive article (hair aside apparently) in the first 38 minutes .
    end of spoilers

Seems kind of unnecessarily bleak of a life for 40-something Peter.

Agreed, Peter's role in the story (based upon what we know so far) seems rather depressing.

A part of me thinks this is payback for how Miles gets treated whenever he's used in Peter-led media .

Even that isn't the definitive article. Just the Peter from Miles' world.

This is a Miles movie, not a Peter Parker movie. And it's about a whole multiverse of Spider people so I'm not too troubled by what they do with Peter.

What the MCU does with him, that's where I'd be concerned. Here, not so much.

It seems to be as close as we're going to be getting to the definitive article in the movie.

I get that, and I feel it's maybe a little deserved with how Miles is generally not served as well in other media where he's with Peter (or when Peter takes Miles stuff like in the MCU), although I don't think it's wrong to be concerned about a how a movie about Spider-Man and his mythos will handle Peter Parker even if he's not the star.

But then again I'm also someone who feels the only role Peter should have in Miles' life is being dead.

I'd say this is on par with the MCU at least in terms of being a major Spider-Man feature film that a lot of people are likely to see, even if in the MCU Peter is a solo star (albeit also Iron Man's sidekick) compared to a supporting (while still major) character here.

    He shouldn't be anyone's sidekick.

I think MCU Spider-Man checks off a lot of sidekick boxes even if he's not attached to the hip to Iron Man (even though he is in the Avengers movies).

Eh, Iron Man will probably die in Avengers 4, leaving Peter free.

I'm really intrigued by this one. The spoilers are surprising, but I'm sure it will allow some great character development.

Very much looking forward to this movie! I love all the spiders involved and the nods to the Raimi Spider-Man films.

Early reactions to first screening are good. (take with grain of salt like all early reactions)
