Magma, Magik, Karma, and Moonstar are the greatest mutants ever invented. The homophobic werwolf and Cypher are generic characters that are long forgotten.

It's all Dani's fault. If she had powers that didn't suck she'd be on a X-team and if she was on a X-team the others could follow, it's hard for writers to bypass Dani because she's clearly the best one.

Cypher is important dammit! His powers over computers are far more useful in 2014 than laser eyes or whatever. Dude is gonna end up some techno-mogul for sure. Plus he and Warlock form a deadly combination of brains and brawn when needed.
And "memento mori" is a super common Latin phrase in a religious context, so I'm surprised anyone even needed to translate it? Except for the younger comic book readers I guess.

To me, The New Mutants should be the Marvel Mutants that get integrated into the The Initiative and The Avengers system of "progeressive" super hero'ing because they are essentially the "trust fund" class of Xavier graduates. That despite their bitching, got some of the finest training ever bestowed upon an X-person. They are The prime example of X-entitlement and perhaps that's why they get together so much because as the little prince Charles' of the X-realm, they were under the impression that at some point the Legacy characters would step down and let them take the helm- a reality that has yet to really actualize.

So i like the idea of them shopping themselves around the Marvel Universe as bonafide graduates from a program that Xavier started, Storm and Magneto fine tuned, and Cable took off and ran with. There's something pure and greek life about the NM, who could rightfully keep their name in the grander MU sense because they would be the supplanting mutants on teams that may have never have had mutants on them before- that's the Legacy for New Mutant Members, to truly embrace the larger world that they were often wrangled into and make names for themselves as not X-men but truly, the new stars of mutant kind that were ready to brand up with other franchises and blaze their individual names across history.

To me, the comic books that bear their collective name should be about their dealing with Limbo, Magik, Selene, Lila capers, or Asgard. nothing more nothing less. We all know that they are a bunch that benefits from working together. They like smelling one another's farts.

X-Men are in a big tug of war in Marvel

On one hand, X-books collectively are their biggest franchise

On the other hand, X-Men is in the movies by Disney's hated rival, Fox, and any attempts to "prop" X-Men up is dangerous

Thus Marvel really doesn't know what to do with X-Men right now. They sideline them sometimes, treat them as part of the MU still other times (such as the upcoming Marvel event Axis being very X-Centric).

And the poor poor Sony-owned Fantastic Four rot away while nobody notices.

I have no issues with how Warlock and Cypher are being handled, Peter David has always had a good handle on characters in his care and so far he's done his best to build on their dynamic with the team and make them into more interesting characters.

Sadly Sam and Roberto's problem is that they were brought into the Avengers where they suffer from the same problem they did in the X-Men, namely that they aren't remotely needed in the slightest. They bring nothing to the team that wasn't already there before they joined and seemed to have taken a few steps back and regressed back into teens, Sam particularly given what he's supposed to be. Honestly the best thing that could be done for either of them would be to place them someplace where they aren't constantly competing with other characters that clearly outshine them, this is the main reason they can't go back to the X-Men since they'd just be regulated back to being just two more mutants. Better to place them into another team that could actually benefit from them being there, whether it's another X-themed team or one of the lesser used groups like the Defenders or the Champions.

Dani is another one that has potential but Marvel seems to have trouble deciding what they want to do with her, honestly I think she could have probably held her own solo series running around as Hela's valkyrie. It could have been real interesting to see Marvel put her in a X-Team made up of former mutants like Jubilee and Rictor (before they repowered him) but outside of placing her with the New Mutants I don't think Marvel can really justify her joining any which is probably why they haven't been using her. We already know that Scott won't take her because she isn't a mutant anymore, something for which I'm grateful since I honestly can't stand how Marvel has just been steadily having everyone join his little terrorist cell. Think it would probably just be better to play off Dani as a mystic character and start saddling her up with teams/characters in the same circle as Thor and/or Dr. Strange.

Fox has Fantastic Four, which explains the neglect. Sony has Spider-Man, who is still the face of Marvel, and they have a better relationship with Sony anyway.

According to SDCC, apparently there are plans in place for Dani soon. Really wish that they had a proper X-panel.

I would have rather had Sunspot and Magik get together, Sunspot is one of the few people Illyana has a soft spot for, Sunspot was also one of the few people that knew Magik was evil but accepted her anyways, unlike the other New Mutants who completely denied her evil side, or thought she was evil and didn't accept her like Rahne .
