It's sad but true. You'd think with it being 2018....

Yes they are white people in Caribbean but generally most of the inhabitants of the most islands are black. So if it is mention a person if from to be island in the Caribbean with exception of Puerto Rico, Cuba and Dominican Republic the generally expectation is that they will be black and even with those islands high percentage is black and wouldn't that big of assumption to make either. So when it mention that she is from Bahamas which is 90% Black and with 4% White (2010 census numbers) it would be a pretty fair assumption to make that she is black. If you have general understanding of that area of the world that is easy assumption.

Is Blink appearance retconned? Not really Blink (and Domino) have always been draw like generic comic book women and their backgrounds have never really been touch on in great detail. This artist/writer team appear to be fleshing out her background which happens all the times in comics like Captain America being change from a generic white guy to Irish . You call it retcon I call it fleshing out character that was basically a blank slate and they will never be need for this convo to happen the future artist follow the template (or if the original artist/writer put this much thought into character) because now Clarice Ferguson from the Bahamas has clearly a broad nose and frizzy hair which are black features.

Now you seem convinced that her linage is part white. Okay fine So we have descendants of Egyptians(Clan Akkaba) who somehow end up european white(think about it) but you have issue Clarice Ferguson being called black because her fictional 1800 ancestor was white. So nowhere in the space of 100 plus years her family end up being black? Do have some fictional chart that traces her linage all way through those times to 20 century Marvel. Basically you are telling people they are an making assumption because of the Bahamas ,While you are making an assumption that in 100 years her Ferguson(Clan Akkaba) linage remained white when the original apocalypse clan akkaba line didn't remain "egyptian". If you want to do too much thinking about this we can and you really can't support your "Blink is only Black on her mothers side, White Bermudans do exist, you know." because they didn't flesh out the details and as you can see small details matter.

Uh, no offense to anyone intended, but isn't there something other than Blink's race (she's light purple, for God's sake) that worth discussing in a thread about Exiles #4?

And Monet wasn't always a white woman until X-Factor, but nobody cares about how she started off black & turned white -or tan European in some cases. But tons try to justify that. But with Blink automatically being thought white by everyone, then being established as black just ruffles tons of people's feathers, and they try like Heck to discount her as such.

With Monet & Blink, both have to be anything but black. As soon as you count or call either of them black, people instantly wanna jump in to argue otherwise.

Most people complaining about Blink's race were probably quiet as mice when Monet got white washed. So then, it doesn't look like people hating a retcon. So much they don't like that Blink is / looks black. Meanwhile, Monet getting less black-looking is cool -now she's more marketable.

Same way people complain about Zazie playing Domino, and claiming that hate it because it's not accurate. Even though TONS of stuff in that film wasn't. And nobody complained. And even people reading the comics are still griping about Domino being black in the films. Even though the adaptations were never known for being 100% faithful to the source material.
Okay, off topic but the Monet skin tone issue, I was literally going through Gen X and X-factor images last night and wondering how or why David thought it was a good idea.
