I didn't want to put this in the Kitty/Colossus thread, since I thought it was interesting enough for its own discussion. I came across this piece on SyFy called "Why The Erasure of Kitty Pryde Matters."
Some people in the comments seem to take offense to a queer Kitty, but I think it's pretty clear that Claremont had always written her with at least some same-sex leanings (as he's done with many of the X-Women). While never really explicit, you can tell she's had feelings for other girls like Illyana, Rachel, and Courtney Ross. I think the last time was with Shan in Mechanix. The author states that Claremont said in a podcast he had at one point intended for Rachel to be the love of Kitty's life. That's the first time I've heard of that, but I wouldn't be surprised if it's true.
Iceman came out of the closet when his hints were nowhere near as blatant as Kitty's. Was it just hormonal teen confusion that she's grown out of or is there something more? Do you believe Kitty is or should be a queer/bi/lesbian character?
