I'm a huge fan of Sebastian Fiumara (since he did Ender's Shadow), and this looks gorgeous. However, I don't like ghost stories generally, and especially not in the Batman universe, which I tend to prefer to be a lot more sci-fi in its fantastical elements. Plus, much as everyone knows I love Batman Eternal, the Deacon Blackfire section of that series was my least favorite part (largely because I think Ray Fawkes was one of the less skilled writers of the team). So...Batman fighting against possession? Dunno. Not feeling it.
But really pretty art!

As much as I like the team and the Deacon, it's always hard to get excited about inventory issues.

Better be watching your saliva there, Batman .
As far as one-and-dones go, this looks okay. I'm at least expecting a better use for Blackfire here then in Birds of Prey.
Why am I always missing an existing thread?
Whatever.
I REALLY LIKE THIS
We haven't had a scary Batman in a while
Nice art. I like Blackfire more as a false icon than as a true ghost, demon or whatever. I didn't read the preview, just looked at the art, so it is just a visual first impression

FYI if you intend to read this comic digitally:
Detective Comics #982 is strangely listed for $3.99 on Comixology (at least as I type this), but only $2.99 for the print preview we're seeing here.
I've alerted Comixology.
Edit: I got a quick reply. Comixology said they'd correct the error.
Edit 2: And they have done so!

Batman killing Ollie seems like a very shocking development.
I quite liked this issue. It reminded me of an '80s-style, one and done type of thing. The art was fantastic. I hope these "smaller" stories are the direction Detective takes and we're done with computers, high-tech lairs, flying around in jets and blowing up half the city, teenage angst, awkward dialogue, etc.
Nice one and done, with FANTASTIC art. Between this issue and the backup in All Star Batman, Fiumara needs a steady art gig in Gotham. I don’t remember the last time I enjoyed an issue of ‘Tec this much. Hope the next team can deliver the goods.

I liked both the art and story for this issue. This is the best interpretation of Batman I've seen in a very long time, including both King's and Tynion's runs. It was dark, atmospheric and captured the true essence of Batman. Fighting against great odds to save one life, recognizing and remembering what he's truly fighting for and knowing that both he and Gotham is not perfect. Tec needs to get back to doing these kind of stories, not whatever the hell Tynion was doing. A truly wonderful issue.
