    It could be argued that the marriage restricted what you could do with Peter Parker, and that led to overblown stories like Maximum Carnage.

    However, Maximum Carnage seems to be immensely successful by multiple measures. It sells well in TPB form, and routinely makes best of lists, especially those where fans get to vote.

    This feels like a very wishy washy answer.

    (Marriage restricted Spider-Man so that something like MC could exist, but MC sold really well and is super successful, so maybe it's not so bad...)

    idk if i’d call it wishy washy, but sometimes there isn’t a “right”. or there are multiple ways to look at something. sometimes **** is complex

    though i personally think linking the marriage to MC is a stretch

    Despite their reputation, there were a lot of enjoyable comics that came out in the 1990s. It's just fun to tease.
