Default In KLH did Kraven or MJ force Spidey out of his grave? Read full OP b4 replying

    A question.

Often times DeMatteis who wrote this story and many other commentators have described the scene of Spider-Man rising out of the grave as occurring due to his love for Mary Jane.

However looking at the scene and scenes before and after it in the story over all there seems to be an implication that Kraven himself brought Spider-Man out of the the grave via voodoo?

In other words MJ or no MJ Peter was going to get out of that grave due to Kraven anyway?

Or am I misreading that scene (I hope so).

    Could it be both perhaps?

I’d really like to get people’s thoughts on this one.

For the record here are some images from the 6 part story that got me pondering the question above.

Kraven can summon Peter in a mystic ritual, but he still can't motivate him. Peter's love for MJ is the emotional fuel that keeps him going when it would be easier to stop.

In context of the story, I don't think that Kraven was involved. I thought it was all on Spidey and what he had to live for.

I've always thought the Symbiote might have somehow been involved in Peter's "resurrection". I think Peter still had it then and wasn't wearing the replica black outfit. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

It was the normal black costume.

I believe it was MJ's love that allowed him to awaken.

I didn't read it as Kraven inspiring Spider-Man. It was all Spidey.

Kraven wasn't surprised that he got out. I think he expected, planned, and arranged for SPider-man to crawl his way out. Killing and burying him was all symbolic to 'defeating the spider'. So I think Kraven fully expected the drug to wear off and for Peter to crawl out, MJ or no MJ. If it hadn't been for MJ... it would have been Uncle Ben or Aunt May in the vision... Giving up and dying just isn't the Spider-man way.

I always understood Kraven as wanting Spider-Man to crawl out, but not actually forcing him to do so.

It's probably why Kraven buried him alive in the first place rather than straight up killing him, he knew there was a likely chance of him escaping and wanted that so he could continue the hunt.

If Kraven wanted to kill him, that's pretty doable with a shotgun. He clearly left Spidey alive.
