Every character ever returning, including all the DLC characters- awesome.
Glad to see a clear graphical update over the Wii U game.
25 minutes, and nothing about single player mode? Ugh.
Overall impressions - Smash is what got me into gaming, so I'd be down no matter what.
And we're still getting more new characters. And possibly even DLC.
Not even a Nintendo owner and I'm impressed. Smash fans really do get a lot of bang for their buck with this.
I suspect like the last game they'll skip story mode. (Though the reason why they did last time was so dumb...)
With pretty much every character returning, I have a feeling this is gonna end up spoiling some people in the long run. Because now this is what they're gonna expect each Smash game afterwards to do from now on.
That was a decent direct, there's loads more content than I was expecting considering the complaints from people it's a port of the Wii U game.
Snowflakes melt in flame wars.
Whelp... I'm satisfied. I got K. Rool. They could release this game right now unfinished and patch in updates as they go and I'm ready to buy it full price.
YEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

Why was K. Rool in such high demand anyway?
I'm still hoping for some more female characters.
Personally I find him a fun character. He's like a Saturday morning cartoon villain. K. Rool a character who can be goofy and menacing at the same time. He started a blood feud with some apes over a bunch of bananas he didn't even want. Kind of like why people like the Joker when he's likable (when writers didn't continue to raise the "sick" bar to ridiculous degrees).
I'm satisfied, but I wouldn't mind Medusa (Kid Icarus), or Captain Syrup (Wario Land) either. Medusa is by the book female villain, and Captain Syrup has a Batman/Catwoman thing going on with Wario...only they both are rotten people.
The reason this particular version of Donkey Kong was so popular (as opposed to the OG Donkey Kong or DK Jr) was because of the Donkey Kong Country franchise which was one of the premier franchises on the SNES. King K. Rool being the antagonist of that game was remembered for that. He was also the primary antagonist of the DK64 game which was the only and last major DK release that wasn't either a Mario game or a gimmick game.
I mean there is a real argument to make that he was bigger than Ridley. For one, unlike Ridley, he was a definitive primary antagonist (Ridley is usually secondary). Not to mention Donkey Kong Country was justa far more popular franchise at it's peak. Then for some weird reason Donkey Kong got relegated to being a Mario side character for years and they never did anything. There's a lot of nostalgia around K. Rool.
He's also just a unique and cool villain. Visually interesting and lots of personality. Like he might be the first comical villain of a major Nintendo character before Bowser started becoming a bit more comic relief post Mario 64.
