Default "A Death in the Family" and other frequently imitated covers of fame

The cover for ADITF is one I've seen emulated a few times in DC history. It strikes me as a nice tribute to the history and weight of the story and invokes a lot of emotion.

I'm sure there are others I haven't seen as well.

What are some other iconic covers that get repeatedly referenced or imitated in tribute? I'll post some more.

(Is there not one with Sinestro on the cover like this, or did I make that up?)

Haha, oh my gosh. Thanks for that, these are really cool. How could I forget COIE?

I suppose that actually predates A Death in the Family then, right? I always thought of it as the original though for some reason...

It does note that UNCANNY X-MEN beat COIE itself by seven years, and might have been the trend-starter.

The often overlooked Bob Oksner created the pieta cover for SUPERMAN'S GIRL FRIEND, LOIS LANE No. 128 (December '72) which probably influenced both later covers. Of course, pieta covers go back much further in time (BATMAN 156 being another classic example), but the Oksner cover had the other heroes and friends standing in the background to witness the hero's grief over the death of his loved one.

edit: Oh yeah, since Carmine Infantino oversaw all the DC covers back then, I wouldn't doubt he had a hand in the design idea for that Lois Lane cover.

Lol, ripe for parody I suppose, like everything else classic.

Yeah, but the Pietà predates it by just a little bit longer.

Even further back is Batman #156, depending on how you look at it.
