Yeah, he was able to catch and stop Mjolnir in mid throw. That’s a hell of a feat. Plus he punched out Thor and used a Spinal Tap reference in the process. It encapsulated his power and sense of humor in one scene.
Absolutely. Busiek's stuff has a hit or miss track record with me, but this was definitely one of the unqualified hits. Both he and Perez clearly understood what a once in a lifetime opportunity they had been given and put absolutely everything they could into this book. This image sums it all up.
apart from the ooc moments it was a satisfactory depiction.
Well, Cap also was ooc in that story, but considering how was developted I was satisfied with the story in general.
And that last cover was biblical.

I've seen bits and pieces. Would love to own it, as a monumental novelty comic.
Some of his characterization seems weird and funny. I dunno if it's because of the plot. The Thor fight is popular, as it should be. I don't think casuals to Marvel/Thor comics know how much of a boss he is, and how impressive it is for Superman to beat him. I really like Thor a whole lot and Busiek's Godstorm is my favorite Thor comic ever, so I trust that he did well by the character otherwise.

I wish they would rerelease this in trade. I sold all my single issues a few years ago so I haven’t been able to go back and read this again.
Kurt Busiek is one of the all time greats and is one of the only Superman writers who hits all the marks for me. His JLA Avengers work is a great illustration of this as well as how he has that same quality with all of the DC characters. It is a travesty that he is not leading DC imo.
I liked his portrayal because of the reasons already listed.
