I loved that game, mostly because Nightcrawler was in it and partly because it featured the X-Men timeline of the X-Men series that almost got made in the late 80's that only got one episode, "Pryde of the X-Men".

Also, it had special 6 man consoles where you could get the entire six member team on the screen at once for maximum mutant mayhem.

Speaking of X-Men games, I should also mention X-Men. I purchased a Genesis just to play this game and boy was it worth it. It was an absolute joy to play, that is once you read in a gaming magazine that when the game tells you to press the reset button, they actually meant the real reset button on the console.

I don't think it's the best but the Deadpool game from a few years is worth a mention.

Do the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles count as superheroes? Because I still really like the first two beat 'em up arcade games from the 90's.

I also liked the 4 player Spider-Man Arcade game. I was bummed it never was released on console.

When I went on vacation last year I found an arcade that had it on quarter plays. Spent like 30min playing it start to finish. Really fun game.

Arkham City imo is hands down the best Superhero game.

While not the best I actually really loved the tie in Game for origins of Wolverine. The violence was what the movie shoulda been. I remember an early cut scene where wolverine on the opposite side of a wall of some mercs. He sniffs the air then stabs his claws through the wall and through homeboys head. I just remember thinking this is Wolverine action done right. The game is fun the story crap but it had to loosely follow the movie so I dont blame them. Defiently better then the movie in everyway.

Ultimate alliance and Xmen aLegends are favorites of mine aswell. But honestly is probaly take the weakest Arkham game over almost any other superhero game. Origins was the weakest but had an amazing story. City was the best but the story was basic and just had alot of random **** happen.. Arkham woulda been amazing if they didnt have all the forces tank shot. I liked some of it but it was too much and took me out of the game. Graphic wise one of the most beautiful games I've ever played

I'm not sure Arkham City had a story.
It had a bunch of loosely connected scenes.

And by loosely I mean stuff like Batman being in the Penguin's museum/base, discovering that to complete the antidote for the Joker's macguffin toxin he needs Ra's Al Ghul's blood. And as he discovers this one of Ra's's assassins that the Penguin had been keeping in a cage in that very room decides this is an excellent moment to escape and lead Batman straight to Ra's who just happens to be in Gotham.

It's beyond stoopid. But the gameplay was good enough to forgive it a lot.

Definelty the least cohesive story. 90% of it feels like an afterthought. Gameplay and locations came first and how that tied to the story was tacked on after the fact. that games is so fun and environment rich though I just cant beat it. Arkham Knight without the tank being front and center woulda been so amazing. Cause other then that it improves on almost everything. But damn iftheydidnt shove that bat tank into the game every 5secs

There's nothing silly about it. It's just plain lazy writing.

The two best games as far as feeling like you were the hero were Spider-Man 2 for the PS2 and Arkham City. Seriously you could not play the stories in those games and just mess around in the respective sandboxes and immerse yourself into feeling like the respective hero.

Spider-man 2: First game that really captured the proper essence of the character. Swinging around New York is still tons of fun and the boss battles are also really enjoyable. The additions and expansions to the movie story worked well enough, at least for me.

Hulk: Ultimate Destruction: This is the only open world game where I'll run around a cause mayhem because it's such a power trip. The gameplay is epic, the scale of everything works perfectly for the character and the story is comic book bonkers. I love this game.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance: Take a plethora of Marvel comics characters, put them into a dungeon crawler with a universe spanning story fit for a comic book event and you get this roller coaster of game.

InFamous 2: I never played the first game, it never quite caught my eye. This one on the other hand had an interesting setting and the idea of working on a time limit because the big bad was rapidly approaching appealed greatly to me. The game play was slick but different from what I was expecting (in a good way) and the story was solid throughout (though I personally never went down the evil path, it just seemed wrong to me).

Batman: Arkham City: It's the most fun game of the Arkham series if you ask me. Simple as that.

I did love the Infamous series. Sometimes, it's just fun to be the villain.

    On that note:

City of Villains: The popular add-on to the first superhero MMO, City of Heroes. This time, players got chances to create characters to run around in the Rogue Isles and move up the ranks to get special tutoring from Lord Recluse's personal lieutenants once you got high enough. So, why is City of Villains better than City of Heroes: the Mastermind archtype. As a mastermind, you lead an elite squad of minions (soldiers, thugs, robots, ninjas, etc.) against your enemies. I loved playing as masterminds. My two favorite were my poison special mastermind leading a team of ninjas and my traps specialist leading a squad of robots. Both were nearly unstoppable. The best part? I could assign emotes to my minions. My absolute favorite was the cower emote that my ninjas would do when I slapped one of them and yelled out, "YOU IDIOTS!"

Champions Online: How do you surpass the greatness of City of Heroes? By allowing players to create anything they want. Seriously, with freeform, you can create anything you imagine. For an MMO alt-oholic like me, this creation system was a dream. I created the prototype of the Silverhawks, several Transformers, a hero who uses 10 of the talisman powers from Jackie Chan Adventures, and the son of one of the original Bionic Six who has all their powers. I've created original characters that can fire bend, water bend, air bend, and earth bend. I've created cosmic powered aliens that control all elements of the weather and mystical ancient beings that wield massive mystical power while utilizing the latest in technological gadgetry to subdue their enemies. I even created a freaking Road Rover who can tunnel under the ground like freaking Bugs Bunny. Whatever weird or fun idea I had, Champions Online gave me the tools to create at least a fairly close approximation of what I was imagining. Also, unlike City of Heroes, one can max level their characters without the relying on a team. It's total freedom. You can be a brooding solo character who hates others or a total team player. No other game has given me as much freedom to utilize my imagination as this game.

The Arkham games were good, but I absolutely hate their character design. It felt far too pointlessly edgy just for the same of it. Penguin had a glass bottle shoved through his face that he used as a monocle. What the hell?

Let me toss a couple of Spider-man's at you.

Spider-man for Playstation. Okay, so it's graphics are horribly dated now and don't stand up. Still, the plot was excellent. The humor was perfect. I loved Monster Ock and What if mode was hilarious.

Spider-man 2 for Playstation 2. (Not the sequal to the game I just mentioned, but the one based on the movie with Dr. Octopus.) It had Bruce campbell in it, which was great. The webswinging in the game feels better and more likely than in any of the other Spider-man games they've done. The subplot with Mysterio was also great leading to the final confrontation with him which is the best boss fight ever.
