    Default Mark Millar's Magic Order

Issue one was mostly a set up. But the writing was tight and the art top notch.
You can either hate the idea that Millar is writing these with the thought of them turning into Netflix series, or think it is a great synergy of comics and film.
(I am in the latter camp)
BTW; anyone able to get the AR cover enhancement to work. My tablet didn't get anything from code inside the cover.
There came a time when the Old Gods died! The Brave died with the Cunning! The Noble perished locked in battle with unleashed Evil! It was the last day for them! An ancient era was passing in fiery holocaust!

I thoroughly enjoyed it but was a bit disappointed with how much of the issue was a setup.

I thought the first issue was fine, as like you say it was set up. The art was great. I'll be bummed though if we get to the end and Millar hasn't told an actually story.

That's the problem with many of his comics, they're pitches for for movies and don't read like stories with a beginning middle and end.

    Really?

Huck, Starlight, Chrononauts, Empress, Reborn...all told a complete story. So did The Kingsman, which was made into a fine movie.

The Current Hit-Girl and Kick-Ass do as well.

I am sure this is made for Netflix to turn into a movie or show, but so what. He still writes a damn fun comic.

I liked Empress but it felt like a TV pilot, I felt the same about Reborn...the stories seemed like establishing a world for future adventures rather than I guess stand alone stories on their own. I liked Jupiters Circle. It didn't have a string plot but I actually really enjoyed the character work.

I'm not against him turning his comics into shows or movies, but I wish he put more thought into some of them.

The feel like complete stories to me. As much as most comics that establish a series.

I still haven't figures out the Facebook AR thing.

Huck and Starlight remain two of my favorite Miller books. Just waiting this one out for a couple more issues, before deciding where it'll stand in my ratings.

One of the first Millar stories I've actually liked for a LONG time. Coipel is killing it.

I'm not at all versed in Millar's works except for Superior and Empress, which I love. And while the main draw for me initially was Coipel on art I have to say he's completely hooked me with his character work.

    Issue 2 is pretty solid.

I came to this book because of Coipel but the story is intriguing. Issue 2 sure kicked the story up a notch - I guess I expected the other wizards to hang around a little longer.

I've not read a Miller book in about 5 years, reached a point where I honestly just found them quite boring and not my cup of tea... But I picked up the first issue of this on a whim, and now we're a few issues in and... I absolutely love this like I didn't imagine loving another Miller book ever again. This is brilliant!!
Current Favourites: Ascender, Daredevil, Department Of Truth, Haha, Immortal Hulk, Luna and Strange Academy

Recent Favourites: Coffin Bound, Faithless, Gideon Falls and She Could Fly

In the past 5 years Millar's been doing some of his best work. Jupiter's Legacy and Magic Order are my favorite works of his, while Empress, Reborn, and Starlight were OK (Nothing great, but not bad).....I haven't checked out his newest Kick-Ass book, waiting for the trade on that one.

I actually don't care too much for a lot of Millar's older books. Didn't like Civil War at all, and I thought his run on The Authority was a complete step down from what Warren Ellis did.

I'm really enjoying this. It doesn't feel as 'slight' as Reborn and Empress. There's a lot of worldbuilding going on and if that's a byproduct of needing the series to also act as some sort of bible for the show then so be it, as long as it makes for a deeper and more rich storyworld.

It's an okay book so far. Coipel is really doing all the heavy lifting on this because it's basically a story we've seen a million times just with magic.
    We need better comics
