Default Bendis writing Batman for Walmart exclusive comic

    BATMAN GIANT #1

Batman searches for a missing girl in "One More Chance," written by Palmiotti with art by Patrick "Patch" Zircher. Reprint stories include "Batman," "Nightwing" and "Harley Quinn."

"Beginning with BATMAN GIANT #3 in September, superstar writer Brian Michael Bendis makes his DC debut on the Dark Knight with a 12-part story, 'Universe,' " the news release said. "Batman's run-in with the Riddler leads the Caped Crusader into a mystery that spans the globe."

I really am impressed by all the different ways DC is trying to diversify recently. This reminds of of the Batman Family comics from the sixties. I might have to try this out. But man if that isn’t a horrid, overdesigned cover. With such a mix of pre-New 52, New 52, and Rebirth.
It's the Dynamic Duo! Batman and Robin!... and Red Robin and Red Hood and Nightwing and Batwoman and Batgirl and Orphan and Spoiler and Bluebird and Lark and Gotham Girl and Talon and Batwing and Huntress and Azreal and Flamebird and Batcow?

Since when could just anybody do what we trained to do? It makes it all dumb instead of special. Like it doesn't matter anymore.

This seems to exist mainly to attract new readers. I fully support this.

The cover seems based on the 100 page giants from the 70s:

Post CBR reboot join date: May 2014, Pre CBR reboot join date: April 2005
Official DC message boards join date (as Batman Fan 31593): April 2000

I'm very curious to see how they're going to select and create these stories. Will they be one-offs, or hard serialization?

I'm guessing one offs because this story by Bendis will be twelve issues long.

Also, how many pages long will each "new" story actually be per an issue?
And if the 100-page comic has four stories (one new and three reprints), what will fill out the remaining pages? Just ads for Walmart?

It’s a nice start to finding new readers. Should be a good move.

This is what they should have done in the first place, instead of pandering which not only turned off long term readers, but PC writing tends to be flat, boring and devoid of substance. It's no wonder that sales began to bleed. That being said the company needs to recruit better writers. And by better writers, I mean either writers who love /respect/understand SH and write towards it. Or writers who look at SH comics and see it as a challenge and an opportunity to create something meaningful.

We don't need a writer who is just 'slumming' until Hollywood calls them, or who has a scornful opinion of comics and thinks that they are for losers/kids and ends up producing shoddy and mediocre stories.

So both the Palmiotti story and the Bendis 12-parter are original to the mag and not reprints?

I'm curious to see how Bendis writes Riddler and if he can pull off some good riddles .
