    Default Kathleen Kennedy survives!

The force is with her for three more years! Here is a little taste. Links below that.

The veteran producer and chief of the Disney content giant behind “Star Wars” has renewed her deal through 2021, an individual familiar with the negotiations told Variety, following a tumultuous year for the label under her control.

The re-up comes as the division gets back on solid footing following “Solo: A Star Wars Story,” the Alden Ehrenreich Han Solo spinoff that suffered disappointing box office returns and behind-the-scenes drama after the studio dismissed directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller well into production. They were replaced by Ron Howard, who was tasked with bringing home the pricey standalone (which cost at least $250 millFollowing the spectacle, Kennedy endured the rare scenario of both the industry and worldwide moviegoers speculating over her fate. Hot takes flowed."

Seems like the idea that she would get fired was more wishful thinking from haters then anything else?

Actually it was coming from more than just so called "haters". "Kennedy endured the RARE scenario of BOTH the INDUSTRY and worldwide MOVIEGOERS speculating over her fate. Hot takes flowed."

We really need to open ourselves up to the fact that just because someone liked/hated something doesn't mean they fit the preconceived notions you have of them.

Now that we got that out of the way. Since its only three years. Does this mean she will be around when any new Star Wars movies hit the theatres? Is she still around but in a weakened capacity? Is that why her contract is up at the same time that Bob Iger's is up?How much input does she have on the Game Of Thrones guys new Star Wars movies? There was still no mention of Rian Johnson's trilogy, is it still a go?

The quote posted is just an editorial though, it's not something Kennedy or anyone actually involved in her contract negotiations stated...so yes it seems like pure speculation that it was a tense experience for her.

Her job might be safe but I feel there might be some caveats for her staying on board.

    Not surprising at all indeed.

Cause well, let's imagine they do fire her. But then, for what exactly? Cause some weirdos are crying on youtube? Sure, the last Jedi made less money that episode 7 but still, no one in his right mind would call it a financial failure and to blame just her for how disappointing, poorly written and awkwardly executed it was is simply not fair. And really, that would just be a PR disaster.

It is somewhat surprising in that she’s 65 years old and coming off an embarrassing flop. Yes, she has made a lot of money for the studio but Disney has also had to spend a fortune saving half of the movies from her mistakes.

Of the four Star Wars movies made so far, three were quite successful, if not the biggest grossers of their release years (not counting BluRay sales and the like). Seeing as a flop is bound to happen thanks to the law of averages, it's not like she's done anything egregiously bad or that's unusual to the industry.

Justice League made more money and everyone was still slowly fired. These tentpoles are not allowed to flop.

It's only three years, and Iger didn't mention her when talking about Star Wars projects. Maybe she has been reduced to just a figurehead.

Or he didn't mention her because he wasn't asked? I don't understand this desire to read into things.

Disney decides to keep her on as the head off Lucasfilm...and no one says a "We are glad to announce that Kathleen is staying on"? Do you think everything would be so muted if Kevin Feige was signing an extension?
