With the upcoming Spiderman game I thought i'd get to know a bit more about Spiderman and I imagine its going to be based off of the more modern comics. Where should I start, I know next to nothing other than what i've seen in the films and some of the cartoon a long long time ago.

Dan Slott has been writing amazing spiderman since 2011. I would start there.
Also there is a Spider man section below the Marvel Comics section on the community page. They would know better.

I would recommend starting from Brand New Day. Amazing was launching in three times in a row intervals. Dan Slott takes fully with Big Time and it's awesome.

If being non-616 isn't a problem, Ultimate Spider-Man is a very good series that gives you everything you could want to know about the character.
