How many characters are selling a solo ongoing for DC right now? Count them.

And don't count the ones whose sales have dropped below 17K on icv2 and are about to be canceled.

DC might not have interest in giving him a solo. They might believe he works better as just the funny guy in Teen Titans.

So for a solo to work, he would need goals/desires/conflicts outside of his connections with the Titans/DP. A job/niche/mythos would help but it doesn't automatically solve characterization.

These are the DC characters who are selling solo ongoings.

    Batman.

    Superman.

    Flash.

    Wonder Woman.

    Nightwing.

    Aquaman. (struggling)

    Green Arrow. (struggling)

    (Batgirl will be canceled soon.)

Does anyone think Beast Boy can break into that echelon?

I'd like a Beast Boy series. He'd need a city of his own, and supporting characters outside of the Titans and Doom Patrol.

I think one of the reasons people see him as a supporting character is that he feels "different" ,what with being green skinned ,so his main motivation for being a hero is to be surrounded by others who are different, like metas. At least that seems to be the way it has often been presented.

Him trying to fit in with "normal" society could make for some really compelling and emotional stories though.

If all else fails he'd make a great leader for the Legion of Super Pets.

A six issue run and then a 12 issue run. Neither are ongoings.

He's currently the angsty guy on the senior Titans - he can't control his powers properly now.

If Beast Boy were to get his own book set in his own city I'd like to see them make up a city that takes place in the South West they haven't done that yet.

DC should just pack it up, then.
If those are the only characters that sell and they already have ongoings, there's really nothing more to publish.

The company's sales are not bad. The problem is that the fans badly and persistently underestimate how hard it is to sell an ongoing. To ask why Beast Boy hasn't gotten an ongoing yet, you'd have to imagine that selling an ongoing is easy.

    ?
Gee someone said the same about the following-

    Supergirl
    Batgirl
    Black Panther
    Robin
and many others. Yet they sold at one time.

As we have seen with others floppies don't mean CRAP-if you can bring in money from other venues. Ms Marvel & Moon Girl have proved that. As did Hellblazer.

As for selling solos are they REALLY selling or are they granted the privilege of having too many copies ordered. Since it's fine to have a huge unsold back issue bin filled with Batman that won't get bought until there is a sale. Yet it's the end of the world if Moon Girl has ONE unsold bin issue.

Well when you have the echo chamber of hate who takes issues with certain books being made along with store owners who don't want those sames books in the store-we all see why it is a battle.

Put there books in places where NEITHER of those groups can harass or bully or chase off readers-you might see better results. There are folks willing to buy Beast Boy or Static or Green Arrow-as LONG AS THAT comci book store is cesspool of hate or viewed as such-those people are not coming.

That's why you don't give him an ongoing. Miniseries makes more sense. Anywhere from 4 to 10 issues tops. Just enough to tell one good story with a good conclusion.

If it was up to people with this mentality. DC wouldn't try anything.

They would try a lot more minis. Minis upon minis upon minis. And graphic novels. Things easy to collect for fans interested in checking stuff out without having to invest so much in an ongoing.

I totally want a mini or solo about BB. Like Midnighter said, Gar somehow works better when he's with people that are as 'weird' as him so he doesn't feel lonely and he can try to make people smile or just like that panel said:

If he goes solo, he'll not have someone who he can tell bad jokes or stuff like that. Maybe he'll become a darker character, which I would totally like to see too, his 'other' phase, not the always jokester, but more of a serious character and a little more mature. I know that a plot focused on Gar can be awesome.

I mean, he had his mini in 2000 where he was more serious but it was a forgettable story, which is sad.

Considering all the opportunities DC has given to Raven, Starfire, and Cyborg I due think BB is probably due some love in either another mini or ongoing.

I've proposed a lot of things here that I think they should try. But you have to be realistic about ongoings for second-tier solo characters. Recurring minis or team comics are better options for most of them.
