Fantastic Four Annual #1 from 2014. The fight between Sue and Doom was amazing.

Ultimate Spider-Man #160. Peter's death was so well done and so sad.

Definitely going to check it out in trades, so many Marvel books I wanna read after that 99 cents Amazon sale a while back. Catching up on comics is pretty expensive.

If I have to choose just one moment that made me go "wow", it would be this scene from Secret Wars :

    Doom is just a badass

Good pick. I also liked the scene in "Secret Wars" itself where Thanos dares Doom to call himself god. And...Doom simply does.

What is the cut-off for "modern" in this thread? My pick is "Iron Man: Fatal Frontier" (2013). The writing and visuals are top-notch throughout. And, the "heist movie" sequence was the moment I realized how much Marvel had become everything that I once loved about DC (by virtue of technical sophistication in the breakdowns and plotting).
Current pull-file: Batman the Detective, Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight, Marvel Dark Ages, Nightwing, Superman Son of Kal-El, Transformers, Transformers: King Grimlock, Warhammer 40,000 Sisters of Battle

Yeah I agree, it was a such a great event despite the delays. To be honest the whole Hickman FF/Avengers/New Avengers/Secret Wars saga was amazing for me

That scene with Thanos was great too ! When you think about it, Doom wasn't messing around in this event lol.

One of these days, you'll run out of "new" stuff to read. So a single "classic" issue that I just loved is Avengers #160. If you have Marvel Unlimited, check it out.

Glad to hear you enjoyed Fatal Frontier too. The heist scene was really good. The part that got me is when Tony knew he was going to have to betray the Uranik and when Tony was multi-tasking while he was in the middle of a fight.

Great thread. I'll have to read some of these issues...because it's been too long since I've read an entire issue of anything that made me go, "Wow!" in a positive light.

Definitely Vision. I kept hearing good things about it and kept pushing off reading it, but eventually I sat down and read it...and I ended up crying in public.

What if? Annihilation ... those last few pages where the Uatu is telling what transpired on the moon and the last splash page itself
Hickman's Avengers....the scope and the build up itself toward Secret Wars was really good. Secret Wars itself, however, is a bit let down for me.

That seems to be a pattern with Marvel events. The lead-in, or the cross-overs tend to be better than the main event. ("Age of Ultron" was terrible. But, some of the tie-ins were good. Ditto for "Secret Empire" and....) The last main event that I can recall liking unto itself was "the Seige", damn near a decade ago.

And, yes "the Vision" is excellent.
