I'm not sure if this is good news or bad news actually.

Pretty sure it's bad news. He has nothing to do with any of the current cast, so to me this just comes across as a lack of ideas and attempt to hide behind nostalgia.

So it’s going to be a typical Disney Star Wars movie.

Lando is the only major character from the original trilogy who's still alive that hasn't appeared in the new movies. I'm wondering what he's been doing for the last 30 years.

Sure. But given this is the final film of the trilogy, suddenly checking in on someone that isn't part of the current story to me suggests that they are grasping at straws. At this point we should already have the core of the story elements and tying it all together in a conclusion. Instead this seems like Star Wars re-launch take 3.

Some guy from the previous trilogy is putting in an appearance? What are the chances he survives the film? I'm currently thinking less than 10%. Which might be generous.

This could have something to do with one of those core elements of the story no longer being with us.

Like the EU did, I'd be guessing in relative peacetime he'd continue being an entrepeneur. The Aftermath novels I think having him liberate Cloud City. He's also mentioned in Bloodlines as giving support to Leia when the senate finds out who her father really was.

I'm glad they are bringing him back...still would have been perfect in the last flick to have him in the Casino scene.

Can't wait to see how they are going to turn him into a sad loser and then kill him like the rest of his (late) pals.

After giving Episodes 8 and 9 a chance, this time I'll be sitting back and reading the spoilers.

Its not just Star Wars, Hollywood is really lacking any originality. Its just one remake or rehash after another. This new trilogy is really bad in my books. I even found the prequels far more enjoyable. There isn't one new character I genuinely care about (Unless you count TR-8R)

If you are suggesting that they are shoehorning in one piece of nostalgia to replace another, then I don't disagree with you. But they should be trying to tell a story not fill up a convention schedule. They might as well just cast George Lucas into the film at that point.

I'm not surpised ... he's been rumored and wanted for 3 films now.
