I'm really glad Bendis is on Superman so far. His voice for Clark is perfect imo. The dynamics are interesting, there is character development, mysteries, action... It really feels like Superman. And that's coming from someone who loves most of Tomasi/gleason's run.

The fact of the matter is that with different writers there are going to be slight differences in how characters are presented. That's how it's always been in comics and will always be. Bendis is going to write say, Jon with a slightly different voice than Tomasi and Gleason. Heck Tomasi and Gleason wrote Jon slighly differently than Jurgens and visa versa. Same with Clark. Same with Lois etc. Its unavoidable.

Having read all three takes so far though, they are as essentially consistent with each other as they can given the difference in ploting, dialogue and pacing between the three writers. Of course there is a noticable difference between them, but no more of a difference than, say, how a Dan Jurgens written Lois and Clark felt slightly different than Louise Simonson's Lois and Clark or Roger Stern's Lois and Clark back in the day.


Everyone has a right to feel the way they do of course, but I do think people are over blowing the differences between how Bendis is writing the Super family from how the previous people did it.i can't help but think if Bendis was writing this in secret under a pseudonym if at least half of the loudest detractors out there would be praising the run right now or be more willing to over look certain issues.

The whole Jon & school thing is kinda funny to me, that it seems to have caused such a rukus. I'll just say this: he's a kid. What kid ever wants to go to school? Both of mine try to get out of it at least once a week, because "it suuuuuucks", and "takes forever!". They are 12 & 9 lol Doesn't Bendis have kids? I think he's writing Jon to sound like one.

Someone on the MoS thread said Jon's drawer gag was akin to a porn stash, which also confused me...kids use "hiding spots" for things they aren't supposed to have (or think they shouldn't have) all the time. My 9 year old used to have a secret spot for lipstick a friend gave her when she was 6, and she definitely didn't want anyone to know she had it. Maybe the assumption was porn because Jon's a boy? I bet that wouldn't have been brought up if Jon was little Lara instead.

Anyway, my thoughts...not sure what else to say that hasn't been said. The art is gorgeous, and I hope Reis stays on the book for as long as possible. Having never read Bendis prior to MoS, these boards were starting to make me concerned for Bendis' arrival but I am very, very happy with him. Jurgens will always be my favorite, my #1, but I do admit a lot of it is due to nostalgia of when I became a reader. But Bendis took the torch & is running full speed with it...he's had one or two dialogue misses when he was trying to be funny with other characters (The Flash....yup), but I chalk that up to trying to find a voice. We have to remember, he's never written these characters before. He's getting his bearings.

I'm curious to see how the ending of #1 came about. It's a great setup for stories. I'm also excited for Action #1, we'll get a good sense of how far apart the two titles take place (unless they are supposed to feed into each other, but I assume it'll be like Rebirth was where each book is around the same time but not the same day).

Action Comics is a flash-forward, taking place after Lois returns to Earth (however, according to Bendis, she does not return home to Clark), it's also retaining it's numbering, so it's Issue 1001.

A flash forward, eh? I'm curious to see how he frames that without draining all the drama from the end of Superman #1.

Well, I imagine the drama with Lois and Clark in Action Comics will allow Superman to retain some of it's current strengths, Bendis has said Superman is the book which will have all the surprises, so there is an investment there for those who are here for the mystery of what exactly Lois gets up to and why she and Clark have a different and somewhat distant relationship, however temporary it is (Doomsday Clock establishes they're living and working together again)
