The big one I hate is that (most) modern Sci-fi series (produced during the past 15 years or so) have to have a universe/timeline/multiverse ending threat every season. I blame this on RT who was very guilty of using the trope during his run on Doctor Who.

Ooh, I hate that. Vulcan is *all* desert. Dagobah is a giant swamp. Andoria and Hoth are winter wonderland theme-parks. It makes no sense from a climate standpoint! Don't they have poles? Equators? Seasons?

And just about every alien planet out there has an atmosphere compatible to humans. It's equally likely that life would have evolved to breathe methane, as oxygen, and yet, no methane-breathers, anywhere. And it's as likely that there would be more or less oxygen than humans are comfortable with, but, *that never happens.* If it's got oxygen, then you can just leave the helmet behind, 'because apparently germs and fungi and pollen and particulates or whatever don't exist on other planets?

I am reminded of Guy, from Galaxy Quest. "Don't open that! Is there even air out there? You don't know!!"
Hoth actually makes sense to be that way. The system is believed to be devoid of life due to the bitter cold, which is one of the reasons the Rebels chose to hide on it - the belief that it was unlikely anyone would even think of looking there. The others, where sentient species developed, not so much.
    Dark does not mean deep.

Oddly Flash Gordon (of all things) was more logical than this with the planet Mongo. It had many different climate zones, each often with different sub rulers. Nothing wrong with the existence of desert or ice planets as such, but expecting them to have breathable atmospheres? Not highly likely.
