James Gunn dropped from GOTG 3

Now that I think of it, this move on Disney/Marvel to fire Gunn actually comes from a long line of treating directors like crap, they fired Patty Jenkins from Thor 2, Edgar Wright left Ant-Man because of creative differences, they butchered Jon Favreau Iron Man 2 (he just accepted it though) and now they fire Gunn for fairly nebulous circumstances. Its almost as if that company treats its creators like trash?

Actors with an actual history of abuse get to stay because, well, their the people the audience recognizes.

Even PG Porn (which is on youtube) is quite crass. His work is closer to John Waters than anything else (although I'm not sure Waters would get away today without some backlash with some of the stuff in his movies).

I'm still baffled that Disney hired him knowing the kind of stuff he put out before (didn't Tromeo and Juliet feature incest? I've never seen it before, just stuff i've read) and the kind of jokes he made before. One would have thought that Disney would have carried out some investigation considering the uproar around the homophobic and sexist jokes he made which they were 100% aware of.

I guess that's part of the problem with Gunns jokes... I'm not sure anyone thought they were funny. If they were, people probably wouldn't be so hard on him.

Granted humor to some degree is subjective... but it seems like there's a relative consensus as far as Gunns comments were concerned. Even people defending Gunn didn't seem to find his comments defensible.

1. Keeping a director who made some bad jokes several years ago will hurt the box office. Massive assumption considering how successful Roseanne was despite her known history. Even more of an assumption considering all of this cake out in 2012 and GoG remained successful.

2. Getting rid of a popular director and entering the realm of politics as this was clearly a Trump team hitjob will not turn people off and hurt the box office.

3. Because he made those tweets as jokes there’s a good chance he’s into rape and pedophilia that’s essentially what you were hinting at.

I think Gunn's dark humor was his way of dealing with his own rape, and not because he was secretly a pedophile or whatever.

I have to say that I am stunned at how many people are defending this guy.If this was a celebrity with even slightly pro republican quotes on his twitter and they had made these comments on twitter it would be completely over. Everyone defending gunn would be trashing that person insisting they never work again, contacting any sponsers associated with any of the companies they work for and threatening to boycott. There would be zero talk of "the person has changed" or "its in the past", it would be 100 percent condemnation with a bunch of celebrities coming out and applauding marvel and asking for movie studios associated with the guy to erase all mentions of the person. Pretty sure it would also lead to a bunch of assumptions about that person and their involvement in the activities that are mentioned in the posts. Gunn is getting a complete pass from some people because he is a liberal, plain and simple, if this was Tim Allen,Jim Cavielzel, Tim Tebow or anyone like that there would be no defense of this guy and every article about this situation would be absolutely destroying the person and anyone who defended him for making jokes that offended victims of the disgusting stuff gunn was joking about. I don't like either political side but the amount of hypocrisy being shown here is astounding. Lastly Gunn has spent a ton of time lately talking about the importance of words and jumping to conclusions about the character and morals of anyone he disagrees with, gunn himself would be trashing anyone who made "jokes" like this and would probably be grandstanding saying he would never work with any company associated with whoever had made the comments.
