There is over two dozens tweets in a three years span about rape and pedophilia.
You actually think he didn’t remember?

He apologized for using offensive or hurtful humor. That doesn't mean he remembered every single offensive joke he ever made.

Seeing as how he's had over thousands of tweets, and those were from a decade ago, yes.

Saying it's proof he hasn't changed, even though he's since stopped using offensive humor and has acted more mature and respectful, doesn't make sense. His current behavior shows he has changed.

People rarely get fired because of stupid tweets.
Gunn didn’t get fired because the tweets were stupid.
Right. He got fired because people were stupid. And I'm not talking about him.

This is why people like Gunn and Rosanna act as cautionary tales. People (even non celebrities) need to understand that if you say or do something stupid on social media, there can be real consequences. Gunn understands that as well as anyone... he's made it no secret that he wants to hold others accountable over what they say or do on social media.
The problem there comes back to the fact that what he did wasn't actually stupid. He was promoting who he was at the time. A shock entertainer. It's like when you read interviews with Robert Englund and he jokes about killing people. That's the type of entertainment he's known for.

But what a person is known for can change. They can grow and start to do different things.
Peter Jackson used to be known for tasteless and bloody gore movies.
Sometimes it happens more gradually than others.

The idea that a person should go back every few years and delete everything they said is ludicrous. Where do you draw the line? Should they delete old posts anytime they have a change of opinion too so that doesn't get used against them?

Although i will agree with you that in general twitter is just a horrible mistake. For everyone.

I like James Gunn and his movies and feel bad for what happened but by his own admission he was a Provocateur he wanted to provoke and well he has is it a shame it was a scumbag who brought those tweets to light to many in the public? Yes but Gunn did what he did to provoke people and unfortunately it bite him in the butt. Disney had a brand to protect and even Gunn respected their decision. They're still using his script for GOTG 3 and he'll get credit and it's rumored studios are already lining up to grab him. IMO it's a shame Gunn won't be able to finish to direct the end of his trilogy but also he'll be fine.

Or that he didn't think he should pretend they never happened by deleting them. If you are truly sorry for something are you going to go out of your way to cover it up so you don't get judged on it?

Ironically, I just saw a Facebook video with a speaker telling jr high kids to watch what they post because it will come back. Businesses regularly do online checks of potential employees.

But if he wants to be known for a different style of comedy/entertainment, getting rid of his old stuff isn't ludicrous it's brand management. Companies don't change their logos and brand style and then leave up all the old stuff. If you want to change your brand, you change your brand.

Disney long ago threw away any notion of this extreme G-rated brand. There have been euphemisms and double entendre jokes in even the animated movies for going on 30 years.

It's even looser with the Marvel properties. Plenty of sex jokes and vulgarities (just hidden under British slang or other bits of shade).

If Disney really believes in this, then they should start disqualifying people based on their resume . . . since Gunn's resume was wholly in line with the tweets.

Whatever their brand actually is in 2018, "chump" is certainly a part of it now.

That it's good advice doesn't justify the ethical failing of the employers' behavior.

If a minor commits a crime, their record is sealed. How we as a civilization can understand that's the right thing to do with crime, but not someone's childhood diary, is disheartening.

It’s pathetic that you have to quote me out of context to help your argument.
This this shows your argument is weak.

    This is my whole quote
“People rarely get fired because of stupid tweets.
Gunn didn’t get fired because the tweets were stupid.
He was fired for the nature of the tweets.”

Nonsense. He was fired because people were making a stink about the tweets. Disney didn't give two shakes of a dead dog's tail before they were "exposed".

He was fired because his tweets “joked” about rape and pedophilia.
    Bottom line

Why did they wait that long? Why did they hire him in the first place?

Honestly, I don’t know. Disney needs to answer these questions.
I want to know the answer too.

Come on I 100% believe Gunn was just trying to get rise out of people back in those days and never meant anything serious by it. But Pedophilia even joking is different then any on other type "sex jokes or vulgarity" especially for a corporation where most of it's product is targeted at Children.
