    Default Nubia the Wonder Woman

Be it the twin sister of Diana who was kidnapped by Ares and raised on an island of war to become Wonder Woman only to take the place over in the name of peace.
The post crisis version who was the worlds first Wonder Woman who retired to guard a portal to the underworld.
Or the Wonder Woman of Earth-23 where it was Nubia who was raised on Paradise Island.

The end result is this awesome black Wonder Woman who kicks butt and is shown to be better than Diana in a fight.

Why don't we see more of her?

Nowadays, sure. But in pre crisis aside from her three issue introduction she was also popping up in Supergirl and in the Super friends comic (which was canon) with her twin sister origin.
Heck, she even had her own action figure http://actionfigureking.com/list-3/m...-action-figure

The twin sister "dark clay" origin is problematic.

There are better ways to introduce a black Amazon ally.

Sure, like having Philipus and Hippolyta make the two of them together.

The clay origin should be unique. It exemplifies the magnificence of the Queen of the Amazons that HER faith and HER favor with HER gods allowed her to create life from clay.

Dark clay is “problematic” but Hippolyta lying and hiding a male twin child isn’t? Or is that character development?

In my idea of a WW universe, Nubia is Diana's half sister via Philipus' marriage to Hippolyta. Donna is adopted.

I would have Nubia's clay origin simply be that both Hippolyta and Phillippus created both of them and use their blood to bring them to life. So both are a mix of their parents. So Nubia just ended up being darker than Diana but lighter than Phillippus. Diana should be darker than Hippolyta. The question is what would Nubia's role be? If Diana leaves to the outside world how could Nubia leave?

Well if you had events similar to her origin where Nubia gets kidnapped by Ares to become his champion. His Wonder Woman, then you have a way out for her leaving the island even after she comes around to the truth of things and becomes ruler of the floating island having driven off Ares.

Honestly alot of it depends on which canon for the Amazons one goes by. The whole 'only Wonder Woman may leave the island by will of the gods' or a version where some were in fact allowed to depart to form an embassy and such.

An alternative is they could even have a story in which Diana is somehow compromised or in a situation where even the gods think her dead or lost, leading to them choosing Nubia to replace Diana. Leaving the door open for both to remain even after Diana is rediscovered.

Though honestly I like the pre crisis bit where she becomes queen of her own island which floats freely across the ocean full of warriors whom she is trying to instill Amazon ethics into. Oh and the full body armor of Amazonium, that was a neat touch too.

I always had an idea that Nubia was in charge of a part of the Islands military that deals with the mythical creatures. By that any terrible creatures escape from the Doom gate they have to find them and So Nubia is the task to get that creature.

There was nothing wrong with the 90's origin where she was a Themysciran Amazon sent to guard Doom's Doorway from the inside. A full story could be developed as to why. Was it a penance, a punishment, or some great honor? I also liked that she was gifted with the cold sight, the gorgon's stare to turned her enemies to stone. She had a good design too, the white streak in her hair should be mandatory for any revamp.

I think it's fine to have something that doesn't involve Zeus for once.
