Favorite X-Roster?

[Uncanny X-Man]

If I can cheat a little... Fraction's Utopia setup was perfect, a strike force with ALL the X-Men ready to be dispatched depending on the mission, plus a "wetworks" team (X-Force) plus the students/New X-Men. I didn't love that run and felt that Fraction could do much better than he did, but his team setup was great.

There's something to be said about how the Utopia era approached team rosters.

They had a veritable army of mutants to fill out the team, and it could change depending on the story, what was needed or who was available.
You're going to war against vampires? Then here's a bunch of mutants who can't get bitten.
You need to fight Proteus? Then you grab the guys made out of metal or control metal.

It made for more creative rosters, some interesting interactions and new friendships made between characters. You had A-Listers and classic X-men teaming up with newer and underused characters.







Now we're stuck in O5ANAD hell and so many great X-men characters aren't being used. That's why X-men Red has been a breath of fresh air

There was this period in the late 90s where the roster was overblown and writers were removing X-Men one by one until we were left with this: Storm, Nightcrawler, Colossus, Wolverine, Kitty, Rogue, Gambit, ...and Marrow.

Aside from the one hit Morlock, this was the first time in a long time the roster felt like it was back-on-track. Still... Marrow?

I agree, I liked that roster except for Marrow. I think it should have included a telepath like Psylocke.

Chris Claremont's Uncanny X-Men Sanctions Executive team - Storm as leader, Nightcrawler, Bishop, Psylocke, Wolverine, Sage, Kitty Pryde and Rachel (Marvel Girl) I think X-23 was also added later. ETA: I forgot that Cannonball was part of that team, although I don't think he lasted long

Two come immediately to mind, the Claremont/Cockrum/Byrne team from Giant Size until Days of Future Past a very enjoyable run, even with his weak start and Remender's X-Force for how wonderfully mess up they were.
