Therein lies the rub. Trump KNOWS his dumbass lemmings will gleeful swallow his bullshit and believe anything he says. Don’t forget, those knuckleheads will be voting in November.

So is Ted Cruz even trying anymore? It feels like that re-tweet of O'Rourke's speech basically amounts to "Look at that guy mixing in with BLACKS."

Sure would be nice if he'd return to his homeworld.

He deserves to lose for that one (and for posting James Gunn's most outrageous comments on his own twitter feed, which is going to reach and bother more people than the original comments did, before suggesting Gunn should be prosecuted.)

The most charitable interpretation of the O'Rourke clip is that he's seeing something in the speech that isn't there. There's another take that he's trying to appeal to racist white voters by showing a clip of O'Rourke inspiring African Americans.

Probably. The only people Democrats like to fight with more than Republicans are other Democrats.

I don't mind the concept having of 3rd Parties so much. Our Electoral process just doesn't support the idea of it. If the Green Party would make efforts to put ballot measures in place to change the system to something like Ranked Choice Voting or Proportional Representation, they would probably see a larger percentage of people voting for them without fear of the Spoiler Effect. Somehow, I don't think those in charge of the movement are as interested in changing the system as they are in helping tear the whole thing down, though.

Will Michael Avenatti's latest client put an end to the GOP's rush to get Kavanaugh confirmed? A highly credible witness has come forward with even more disturbing revelations about Kavanaugh and his buddy Mark Judges's conduct in high school and college.

A little bit about her. Avenatti says in a tweet that:

She has previously done work in the State Department, the U.S. Mint and the Department of Justice
She has been granted multiple security clearances in the past including Public Trust and Secret

The questions he has proposed that the Senate ask of Kavanaugh are disturbing and a reminder of the frat boy culture that prevailed in some of these elite schools.

    1. Did you ever target one or more women for sex or rape at a house party? Did you ever assist Mark Judge or others in doing so?
    2. Did you ever attend a house party were a woman was gang raped or used for sex by multiple men?
    3. Did you ever witness a gang of men outside of a bedroom at any house party where you understood a woman was being raped or being taken advantage of?
    4. Did you ever participate in any sexual conduct with a woman at a house party whom you understood to be intoxicated or under the influence of drugs?
    5. Did you ever communicate with Mark Judge or anyone else about your participation in a "train" involving an intoxicated woman?
    6. Did you ever object or prevent one or more men from participating in the rape or taking advantage of a woman at any house party?

Avenatti also is pushing for subpoena of Kavanaugh's long time friend Mark Judge, who has tried to make himself scarce. He was hiding out in a beach house in Delaware but a reporter for the Washington Post tracked him down. I think the strategy was to have Judge lay low until the whole thing was over but Avenatti has put a bit of a monkey wrench in that if there is increasing pressure for the GOP to really their due diligence on these charges that are revealing a darker side to Mr. Family Man Bart.

Funny how some of these guys run in the same circles. He was never accused of anything of this nature but Neil Gorsuch also went to Georgetown Prep school, two years behind Kavanaugh. They've clerked together at the Supreme Court and wrote a book together among other things. It's that good ol' boys club once again. I'm not implying anything improper about Gorsuch but it just shows how interrelated these guys that get Supreme Court consideration these days.

2005, but you know that no doubt They were last in power for 13 years.

The problem is the first past the post voting system. This leads to bizarre results, such as UKIP getting 3.8 million votes, 12.6% of the total, but ending up with one seat in the House of Commons. That one seat, of course, being Douglas Carswell, who was a Conservative who joined UKIP in midstream, and later spectacularly fell out with the leadership. Now I despise UKIP, but the fact that they had so little representation in Parliament is an affront to democracy.

The related problem is that the lesson of the Lib Dem’s entering into coalition government in 2010 is that third parties can’t survive government without suffering horrific losses. This is because they were effectively a coalition party themselves, running the gamut from economic conservatives but social liberals, to those whose economic views were to the left of most Labour MPs. It crippled their popularity, and they’ve not recovered yet.

In a way though this is the wrong time to talk about the lack of point of voting for small parties. The DUP (admittedly the major party in NI, so it’s slightly different) holds immense influence at the moment. The SNP is in charge of the devolved Scottish government. Even the Lib Dem’s, because of the Parliamentary arithmetic, hold influence.

Brexit was caused by the cynical decision of David Cameron to appease his own party by calling a referendum, and was against the ostensible aims of the leadership of Labour, the Conservatives, and the Lib Dem’s.

Republicans Knew More Kavanaugh Claims Were Coming, Democratic Aides Say

After learning of more sexual misconduct allegations, GOP staffers tried to speed up the Supreme Court nominee’s confirmation. Time to pump the brakes on this madness.

Avenatti was on Rachel Maddow last night. His accuser's name will be revealed before Thursday, but she's a former State Dept. and U.S. Mint employee whose integrity will be hard to question, because she keeps passing background checks to speak to her character, and Avenatti says he has further evidence to corroborate her story about sexual assaults perpetrated at Georgetown Prep in the 80s.

It's either the ballsiest bluff ever to try and get Kavanaugh to withdraw, or Avenatti's going to seriously bring the goods. So far, he hasn't bluffed.

On this date in 2014, 2015, 2016, as well as 2017, "Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day" published profiles of Kansas Governor Sam Brownback, a man whose dedication to smaller government and lowered taxes has left his state with billion dollar budget deficits (annually), forced early school closures due to the state education budget running out of money before the scheduled end of the school year, and an overall dedication to Fundamentalist philosophies against abortion and LGBT rights that have forced the Kansas Supreme Court to step in, repeatedly. After repeatedly blocking the expansion of Medicaid in Kansas, Brownback released a statement that his opposition to the Medicaid expansion was that it would be “morally reprehensible” because it would help “able-bodied adults … who choose not to work” and would send money to “big city hospitals.” And Brownback chafes at any check or balance upon his power, particularly from the judiciary who he’s threatened to defund, as his leadership continues to abuse the poor and destitute, while allowing the wealthiest citizens to reach even greater heights of prosperity. Brownback still insists that it’s fine for him to conduct government business from his own private e-mail that is exempt from transparency laws, and only won re-election in 2014 with 49.8% of the vote, while other members of the GOP dominated at the polls, his approval ratings hover in the 30s, and several Kansas Republicans have turned to endorsing Democratic candidates rather than let his loyalists run roughshod over the greater good for Kansas. Kansas has had such a rough time of finding the money to run their own state that they were forced to auction off $163,000 of sex toys confiscated by law enforcement in 2015 to meet budget shortfalls. And when people actually report on how bad the plight of bad governance in Kansas actually is and how he’s been an abject failure as the state’s chief executive, Gov. Brownback claims everything’s fine, and it’s all just a “liberal conspiracy” to smear how good of a job he’s doing. Already in lame-duck status going into 2018, Republican officials convinced Donald Trump to nominate Sam Brownback to be his religious freedom ambassador, one of the few appointments he has made to the State Department, and Brownback resigned rather than flail about for the last few months of his term. As such, we'll set aside his profile to go ahead and take a look at a different kooky Republican today instead. (Current crazy/stupid scoreboard, is now 693-30, since this was established in July 2014.)

    Matt Rosendale

Welcome to the 693rd original “Crazy/Stupid Republican of the Day” profile, where we’ll be profiling Matt Rosendale, a 2018 candidate for U.S Senate in Montana looking to swipe the seat of Democratic Senator Jon Tester because of his background as a real estate investor from Maryland who pretends he’s a rancher out on the range from almost all the way across the country. All public records show, though, that Rosendale is a “rancher” by way of just renting real estate out to others who actually do the ranching on that land. This would be like if a landlord claimed to be a professional cosplayer because one of their tenants went to a comic convention dressed as Sailor Moon.

Anyway, that reputation as a carpetbagger is already rather established in Montana, because Rosendale was bludgeoned with that label when he was defeated in the 2014 Congressional Primary for Montana’s At-Large seat in the U.S. House of Representatives against CSGOPOTD alumni Ryan Zinke. After winning one term in the Tea Party Wave in Montana back in 2010 to get into the State House, Rosendale won a single term in the Montana State Senate in 2012, before his losing streak started. The only election he’s won in Montana was for State Auditor in 2016, on the benefit of getting to run unopposed.

And, because Rosendale is willing to campaign on immigration by calling for Donald Trump’s stupid idea for a border wall along the U.S./Mexico border and Sen. Jon Tester has s***talked the thin-skinned orange menace, Emperor Dementia von F***face himself went to campaign on Rosendale’s behalf, which amounted to him rambling incoherently for almost an hour while barely mentioning the candidate. That would be the same rally where Trump lost the crowd enough that a guy in a plaid shirt upstaged him, and that other attendees were escorted out and replaced with plants because they didn’t look enthusiastic enough.

Our main issues with Rosendale, however, aren’t his carpetbagging, so much as they are with his rampant racism. That’s almost a given, we know, with labeling himself a Trump conservative and wanting a border wall, but because he’s spoken highly of white supremacists in Montana like Taylor Rose and Chuck Baldwin. Or how after Florida Congressman Ron DeSantis was outed as the moderator of a Facebook group of conservatives that exists almost solely to share racist memes and insane conspiracy theories like Pizzagate or that the left orchestrated Charlottesville, Rosendale was revealed to have been an active member of it for some time (when caught, he dropped himself from the group).

And, Matt Rosendale can’t seem to go more than a week without a major campaign gaffe, as now he’s being investigated by the Federal Election Commission because his campaign was illegally coordinating their ad campaigns with the NRA because he himself blurted out that he was doing it in a televised interview.

In other words, as the last weeks of the 2018 campaign whittle down, it looks more and more like Jon Tester is going to win another term in office in one of the reddest states in the country, because the Republican Party can’t help but find the most corrupt and racist yahoos left in their ranks like Matt Rosendale to promote.

I've said this here many times before, I'm no political animal, far from it, so I've presented views and opinions that have had more than a touch of ignorance. That said, I can't help but wonder how much of the GOP's obsession with confirming Kavanaugh's nomination to SCOTUS comes down to simple partisan rancor and their desire to "stick it" to the Democrats, and how much is keyed to their insane need to keep Donald Trump and the 30 something odd percent of people who support him happy? Would Republicans have already cut their losses and bailed on Kavanaugh if say, Jeb Bush or Mitt Romney were president?
