Exactly -- a large number of American voters may want universal health care but you also can't ignore the large number of voters out there who claim they don't want it.

The Republicans ran for nearly a decade on repealing the ACA and they couldn't have done that if it didn't resonate with the Republican base as a whole -- pretending as if those voters don't exist or will somehow suddenly come around to universal health care just because it's part of the "liberal" agenda is wishful thinking at it's best.

Even if it's the humane thing to do -- even if it saves us money in the long run -- many Republicans just don't want to pay for the care of others even if those programs often help them out as well.

That said, both parties seem to be equally adept at shooting themselves in the foot when it comes to governance, so here we are with chaotic policy struggles, Trump in office, and more division than ever -- the worst of all worlds.

Prior to Obama I would have argued that the solution is working with the Republicans to resolve these issues, but the last decade -- and the nomination of the represhensible Russian agent known as Donald Trump to the head of the party -- have shown me that said party needs to be voted out of existence and replaced by something that actually stays true to honest and objective fiscal and family conservative values while protecting the rights of freedoms of all American citizens equally, regardless or race, religion, sexuality or gender.

US special counsel Robert Mueller has recommended a prison sentence of up to six months for former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos.

Mr Mueller, head of an investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election, said such a sentence was "warranted and appropriate".

Mr Papadopoulos has admitted lying about his contacts with Russians while a member of the Trump campaign team.

Sentencing is due to take place on 7 September.

"The government does not take a position with respect to a particular sentence to be imposed, but respectfully submits that a sentence of incarceration within the applicable guidelines range of zero to six months imprisonment is appropriate and warranted," Mr Mueller's memorandum to the judge in the case says.

The memorandum adds that Mr Papadopoulos lied to the FBI about his contacts with alleged Russian go-betweens.

Bet (ex-RNC finance chair) Cohen is dropping dimes behind the scenes like a man who doesn't want to spend the rest of his days in prison... by serving up his Republican co-conspirators in return for a little leniency in court.

Works for me -- a little prison time would serve as a nice wake up call to all of the Republicans (like Manafort) out there who think corruption is just part of the "game".

The Papadopoulos sentencing request is probably sending a clear message to other informants (like Cohen) that misdirection and obfuscation won't be tolerated.

"Republican fundraiser Elliott Broidy is under federal investigation for allegedly telling foreign officials he could influence the Trump administration to take certain actions in exchange for tens of millions of dollars, The Washington Post reported Friday.

The Post reported that two sources said Broidy is being investigated by the Justice Department for allegedly coming up with a plan to try to talk the administration into sending a Chinese dissident back to his home country. Broidy is also being investigated based on allegations that he wanted $75 million from a Malaysian business official to get the Justice Department to end its probe of a development fund under the control of the Malaysian government, according to the report..."

That's getting off pretty easy, unless the Judge turns out to be a big fan of harsher sentences.

McDaniel obviously had no knowledge of military history. He should have known that in the entire 19th century, U.S. had only one decoration called Medal of Honor that was created at the start of the Civil War. The U.S. Army would never give the medal of honor to General Lee. The U.S. Army didn't have any other decorations aside from the Medal of Honor until 1918 when the Distinguished Service Cross and Distinguished Service Medal were created.
Never heard of Dan Daly it seems. That guy was turned down for a third Medal of Honor because top brass thought it would look bad to everyone else even though he earned it.

Now this is funny. ESPN went from claiming that the protests had nothing to do with the NFL's declining ratings, to ESPN's suddenly not showing the protests. The moral is, don't listen to what people say. Watch what they do. ESPN knows damned well that the protests are chasing viewers way. Read the comments.

They're not just not showing the protests. They're not showing the anthem at all. They're doing what they used to do, which was cut to commercial during the anthem. Because you know, advertising beer honors the American way more then airing the National Anthem.

For how conservatives love pointing out how liberals are too easily wrapped in culture wars they sure love rolling in the same mud just as much once one of their pet issues is the focus.

He made a deal, remember? I guess a sentence this lenient indicates he gave them some big fish.
